Surge of Violent Crime in Moco

Anonymous
I've been a resident of MoCo since 1992 and it's changed so much. The diversity of cultures has its good and bad. The gang activity, schools out for the summer and lack of the family cohesiveness contributed to this past weekend.

It's not D vs R issue. As others have pointed out, MC's been always a blue county. What changed, however, is that county policies used to represent "center-left" common sense policies. Not it's completely off the chart far left. Yes, we are f'ed.

This idea that there is something the county did in the last 5 years that caused this has no relation to facts. Do you really think Will Jawando getting elected to county council made some guy think it was ok to stab someone in CVS?

I think that's short-sighted narrowed minded way to look at where we are. These things happen over time, it's not like your light switch on/off buttons.

You moved here right after we moved in 1990. I agree it has changed so much. Unlike you, I don't see any good changes though. I guess diversity itself is good but that's about it...

the latinification of moco

If you’ve spent time in non-touristic parts of central and South America, this is par for course.

In 20 years, single family homes in moco will all have concrete walls around their yards with glass shards on top of said walls

Guess we should expect ridiculous comments like this up until Election Day.

Yes because there aren't any ridiculous comments coming from the other side.

No, there isn't the same level of hysteria and fearmongering.

Wow. Are the racists new or have they been there all along?

Are they native or imported from Europe?

Don't go there. Saying inconvenient truths is not acceptable.

You people elected Jawando and Mink. What’d you expect voting in stupid? Not to get stupid in return?

Keep doubling down on clowns like those and see how well it goes for you all. At least you’re equitable though!

More like equitably going down the drain at the same rate.

I’ve been in MoCo since the 1970s (born and raised here), and it has changed dramatically.

The reality is the Latino population is becoming the majority. That wouldn’t be an issue at all except the young men who come here as tweens/teens to work are drawn into gangs and violence. Interestingly, it’s the gangs/violence they tried to escape in their home country.

Guess what? When you have a sufficient number of Latinos from certain countries here, it’s very easy to establish and entrench the same criminal behavior here.

Drugs, crime, human trafficking, etc.

Add to the mix the fact that low income blacks and related drug/gang activity don’t mix with the newcomers, and we are left with a powder keg.

Go read the chronic absenteeism/truancy thread in the mcps forum. Note the linked mcps studies. In short: the shifting demographics over the last 10 years are documented. And the rising absenteeism is likely related to young Latinos who simply aren’t here for an education. They are here to work…and sometimes the work involves criminal activity.

Call me a racist. I’m not.

Now take a deep breath and think about the changing demographics and moco or mcps data…connect the dots.

You know how everyone around here likes to make fun/openly criticize Texas?

Anyone wonder what will happen in MoCo once Latinos become the majority?

Anyone connect the dots to the fact that most newcomers are evangelical Christians? Anyone wonder what impact that might have on future elections once they can vote?

No you’re just senile. Crime was higher in the 70’s and 80’s.

But the state is run by republicans who over-correct in response to the crime as well as the shifting demographics.
