Montgomery County doesn't have a sanctuary city policy. Multiple people experienced the trauma of being attacked with a knife, a Montgomery County police officer experienced the trauma of shooting and killing a 19-year-old who was most likely having a mental health crisis, and your response is to bang on about federal immigration policy. |
Another person who seems to believe that Martin Luther King Jr., in his whole life, only said one thing worth noting. |

"Two days later, the Office of the Maryland Attorney General identified the suspect as 19-year-old Franklin Castro Ordonez of Gaithersburg, Maryland." |

Thank you! This is the problem right here and it’s a perfect example of why we need to pay more attention to council elections. |
They got taught the sanitized version of Dr. King. His Birmingham Jail letter would generate full blown conniptions when they read it. |
To say nothing of Dr. King's "The Other America" speech at Grosse Pointe H.S. in 1968: https://www.gphistorical.org/mlk/mlkspeech/ |
Middle class families like myself are starting to plan their exit strategy from MOCO. The schools are no longer good, the neighborhoods aren't safe- and it's very expensive to boot- why live here if you don't have to. It's going to continue to decline as the influx of immigrants come and suck dry the limited resources we have to give out. I'm hoping my kids can make it out okay - they have 6-9 years left in public school. |
Why delay? You can move away now! |
Because we're middle class with kids and therefore there's a lot of moving parts to consider. If I could move right away I would. |
A teen was arrested for shoplifting and carrying a ghost gun at Dick's Sporting Goods in Wheaton: https://wjla.com/news/local/juvenile-arrested-shoplifting-dicks-sporting-goods-ghost-gun-montgomery-county-md-maryland-police-department-serial-number-theft-firearm-weapon-suspect-safeway-westfield-wheaton-shopping-mall# |
Total fabricated bull crap. Police are NOT told “not to arrest” criminals. Start with that lie right there. Do you have any evidence that this suspect was previously arrested or detained but not charged like you are claiming or is that total BS that you made up out of thin air too? Let me quote our county executive and see what he actually thinks about these situations: “Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich said in a statement Saturday night that he would work with health officials, police and community partners to identify and expand mental health crisis services in the county. “While we do not know the motive for this attack today, I continue to believe we need to do more to address the markedly increasing mental health crisis in our community,” he said in a statement. “We need to find ways to avert these kinds of tragedies from occurring and not put our officers into the difficult and tragic position of determining when it is necessary to take a life.” Why don’t you criticize his actual words rather than your own made up nonsense? |
I’m not the PP you are responding to. There have been over 20 police reforms in Montgomery County over the past 3 years. 20. The council has taken great lengths to restrict how police respond to crime. Their documents overtly state that the number of police in Silver Spring and Wheaton need to be reduced by 50% in order to limit public interaction with police. (Note that suggests the police are the problem, not people committing crimes.) Current legislation would keep officers from responding to certain traffic violations. It’s apparently better to allow people to drive without a license and without working headlights than risk an interaction with an officer. (Again: the police are the problem, not the person behaving irresponsibly.) Meanwhile, they’ve spoken regularly about how efforts can be directed away from police into a series of support networks. The PP was asking where those supports are. What has the council accomplished? We’re taking away from the police but not putting anything into place. That’s the problem the PP is pointing out. |
