OP was not rude. MIL was pushing to get the (what she perceives to be) correct answer that she wanted, and it wasn’t there. She should have stopped digging. If you keep poking at someone, you may not like the answers you get. What would you like OP to do, lie? Lie and say oh yes I do answer the phone every time it rings?

Well, since you were there you would know, right? OP did lie. She checks her missed calls she just wanted to be an ass to her MIL.

Can you read? OP said she would call the person back if it isn’t a telemarketer. Is it that you can’t read, or that you can’t comprehend what you read?

Oh you missed the part about letting peopel call her back if its an emergency or call 911? Maybe read it again.

Why do you expect other people to always be at your beck and call?

I don't say untrue things and then get huffy when people notice and give me the cold shoulder. If OP was so sure of herself, why did she let it get under her skin?

…because you can ignore someone/not take their bait, and still think they are batshyt crazy? That’s kind of how this forum works.

Oh well, what's up with all these DILs who can't cope with their MILs? Roll your eyes and move in life as well as on here. Life isn't that hard.

Huh? Seems as if it’s the MIL that can’t deal with her DIL. She’s giving the silent treatment because she doesn’t like that her DIL let a phone call go to voicemail. If that’s not the definition of emotional immaturity, I don’t know what is.

Did MIL or DIL write this inane post?

DIL should take notes then, she decided to go toe to toe with her MIL and now here she is whining about the consequences.

She said she calls back if it’s not a telemarketer. MIL then brought up the “what if it’s an emergency card,” and OP reasonably responded that in the case of an emergency, someone will indeed call back a few times, or call 911. I once let a call from my brother go to voicemail when I was in Yellowstone. When he called back two more times quickly, I correctly figured out something big was going on, and called him back. He was calling because my uncle had died.

What “consequence”? If my yammering MIL gave me the silent treatment, I would so love it. Ahh, peace and quiet.

Soooo...really? You would all drop everything and run to a different floor of the house to answer a call any time your phone rings? I’m flabbergasted. Honestly.

"She's freezing me out, are you serious?" Whatever does OP mean by this statement then?

OP said she would check her phone when she has time. So yeah, she’s checking her missed calls. You need to unclench and release that phone from between your cheeks, Karen.

Said nobody. But I also don't make rude comments like "if its an emergency they can call back a few more times or just call 911". I would say something normal to questioning MIL like "I'll check when I get a chance, too busy right now." and leave it at that.

She means, “What secure, sane adult acts this way?” And the answer of course is none, MIL be crazy. You are right, OP, you don’t need to drop everything to answer your phone.

But, it’s the truth! That’s exactly what someone would do if it was an emergency.

How exactly is it rude to say “If it’s an emergency, they can call back a few more times or just call 911?” Please explain how this is rude.

THAT’S EXACTLY WHAT SOMEONE WOULD DO IN AN EMERGENCY. Are you crazy? Is it only 85 year olds on DCUM today? I do not understand who you people are and why this bothers you? OP was telling it like it is.

I love how the MIL is not even trying to deny that it’s her posting here.

Rage on, MIL!
