Right. Did you read the title? Just saying it won’t happen in a MONTH.

Reach back when you are a menopausal woman.

It is true - losing is so much easier for men and they don’t get it. For us 40+ women, It takes work, discipline and more time than any of us have. 41F here who gained, no joke, 30 lbs during covid. I lost 18 lbs in the past 2 months but I work out roughly 2-2.5 hrs daily (3 mile run, 1 hour of weights, additional walk later in the day) and track all of my calories w/ a 1200 calorie daily limit. So it can be done but it’s time-consuming and virtually impossible w/ a job and young-ish kids etc. All my husband has to do is fart and he loses 10 lbs.

I'm thankful my mid-40s wife (works full time, 2 elementary aged kids, no family help nearby) doesn't make excuses and instead works on her fitness and health. It would be miserable being married to some of the women here.

Ha, what?

So, you wouldn't love her if she wasn't thin? It would be miserable being married to. someone shallow like you

Yes, but OP said his goal is 15-20 more over the next several months. A total of 30 loss starting at 216 is about the same % as the rockstar PP who went from 148 to 128 in 6 months. He's only halfway there and seems realistic about how much harder it gets.

It can be done but men can eat 1000 more calories than a woman per day. So they don't get the deprivation it takes to lose weight and most would likely not have the fortitude to do it.

Have you been doing all those things? post your MFP stats so we can see the exercise and caloric intake.

So cute.

My MIL has always kept her weight down and is honest that it takes skipping dinner to do it. Men, could you even skip dinner every day for decades?

+1000. My husband loses weight and eats donuts every morning for breakfast.

OP can you post how many calories a day you were eating to see a 4 lb per week weight loss? That would be helpful. Thanks!

Whoa, OP here. Thanks for the encouragement (most), and good luck to the rest of you. It's true that I am not a woman and I don't know the physiological changes you endure. I hope my post didn't trigger you, that was not my intent.

Hope the link works below. It shows net calories for the last 30 days. Most days I ate more than 1600 but also worked out daily. The spikes are days out eating fancy dinners. We cook a lot at home, I love cooking. Wings are air fryer. Pizza is homemade down to the dough. Coffee is always taken black. Organiz d meal planning is the only way for us to make it work with two working parents, 2 elementary aged kids, and no family help around. Workouts are usually at 5:30am and I go to bed around 930pm. I guess the other big thing I've cut out is TV because no time for that. Still making my way through Ted Lasso season 1. BELIEVE!!!

Me too. I have a caloric deficit and exercise daily and I still gained 15 pounds. But, congrats to you.

You're probably not in a deficit then.

NP. I'm not bitter. I think OP is doing great! Congrats, OP! But I also agree with the female PPs who said it's so hard as a perimenopausal/menopausal woman. I don't drink alcohol, eat dessert, etc., and at my height (5'3") have to really watch what I eat just not to gain.

Good job OP, but I hope you realize that losing 16lbs of fat in a month implies a daily deficit of close to 1900 calories (16*3500/30). That means a woman who only eats 1200 calories would have to burn some 3100 calories a day. I am 140lbs and I only ever burn that much if I do heavy legs for 2 hours at the gym and accumulate 20k+ steps over the day. My usual daily burn, being fairly active in general, is around 2400 a day. This is just to demonstrate that what is fairly easy for a 200lbs+ man would be pretty suicidal for a significantly smaller female. That said some of the ladies here seem a little overly irritated about your success. Yes, it takes longer to lose weight but it is perfectly possible to be in great shape even at 40+.

Congrats OP! Given past history, it will probably take me a year to lose 20 pounds (late 40s female, 185 pounds) but I know how great it feels to make progress and applaud your success! In particular it’s great that you seem to have taken an ‘everything in moderation’ approach instead of cutting out entire food groups.
