MCCPTA is supposed to be about county-wide issues facing all students, but they've been taken over during the past few years by the Silver Spring Takoma Park crazies. They only care about East County issues and nothing else. And those who matter no longer respect their opinion.

The Black and Brown Coalition has more respect County-wide, so if your interested in all children, get involved with this group, not MCCPTA.

Is it because they are the only ones participating? Couldn’t delegates from other parts of the county form committees on issues they are interested in? I’m assuming these committees are restricted to delegates but I could be wrong about that.

This is a false narrative often pushed on this forum. The leadership of MCCPTA has not been "taken over" by SS/TP residents. It is not even mostly comprised of SS/TP residents. And if people don't like how a volunteer organization is run, they should get involved themselves and work to make changes.

Of course it was. Why else would most of the officers have advocated for busing a couple years ago when 90+ percent of the county said they didn't want busing?

Yes if you want to influence the MCCPTA initiatives, you need to be a delegate, that’s how it works. Only really dedicated people have time for that, but the opportunities are there.

Agree, except they don't encourage white people to attend.

It seems like you don't know anything about the Black and Brown Coalition. Hint--it's not about the PTA.

They don't care about the east county issues either. They only care about their chosen things.

I know those SS/TKPK people are always going on about these crazy things like equity and educating all children! It's crazy because we really only care about our local W schools.

Equity requires discrimination. So yes, it is crazy and racist. And TP/SS support it.

There you go again. Efforts at equity are an attempt to address the results of systemic discrimination.

It seems like MCCPTA is forcused on more broader, district wide issues, but I'm not sure how you would get involved with it. Do folks typically get involved with the school PTA first and then move up over the years?

Yes mccpta is more district related stuff. School PTA is focused on the school. If you want to be more involved with MCCPTA, volunteer to be the Delegate for your school and you'll be in charge of attending the MCCPTA meeting each month on behalf of you school. You'll then report back the updates to your school via the general PTA meetings.

Basically this. You will need to go to a PTA meeting if you want to nominate yourself to be the school MCCPTA rep. The MCCPTA used to collect dues or fees from school PTAs and host an annual dinner but I’m not sure that they do that anymore. They had an embezzlement issue a few years ago.

Correction, MCCPTA has had multiple embezzlement issues. It's not just a one off. It's happened multiple times. The MCCPTA money is ripe for abuse.

MCCPTA is a disaster. So many issues with finances.

I don’t join the PTA for that reason and because our PTA is kind of a mess.

Donate to the school directly - books to the library, ask the teacher what supplies she needs, etc. At least you know your money is not being embezzled.

By using...wait for it...discrimination. Even Kendi calls this discrimination and he's the wokest person on Earth.

+1

Maryland PTA was reprimanded not too long ago by the National PTA. So it just gets bigger...

This. And I'm a board member of our school PTA. Our PTA doesn't actively recruit members because we know what a hot mess MCCPTA is. We knew we just needed 25 members as the requirement. We rather focus on getting people to donate, volunteer, etc. to help the school directly, and people need to realize that you do not need to be a PTA member to do those things. You also do not need to be a PTA member to attend PTA meetings.

Maryland PTA was disbanded and no longer exists. National is setting up a new state level organization from scratch.

That’s not entirely true- our school delegate always forwards MCCPTA-level volunteer opportunities to our school PTA members. I’ve never followed up on them but it was my understanding that anyone could do so (could be wrong in that though).

Their entire purpose is to promote the more equitable distribution of MCPS resources. MCCPTA has also made equity a big part of their agenda so why would Black and Brown parents need to form their own organization to promote equity if MCCPTA was already doing it? Maybe it’s because the white folks equity agenda at MCCPTA was based on what white folks wanted and not what Black and Brown kids needed? Maybe they they ignored and disregarded the input of Black and Brown parents so they could run around claiming an equity agenda that served other purposes? 🤔

Do you have anything more than these "maybe"s to support your argument?

I'll note that the Coalition lists MCCPTA as a partner organization, so they would appear to be on good terms.

Well, I gotta say this drama almost makes you MCCPTA types look interesting. Maybe I should join.
