MCCPTA vs. school PTAs

Outdoor lunches during Covid--MCCPTA
Covid testing in schools--MCCPTA
Restorative Justice--MCCPTA
Restraint and Seclusion (against)--MCCPTA
Removing SROs--MCCPTA
Equitable practices for identifying GT/magnet students--MCCPTA
Special education IEP compliance--MCCPTA
Water and air testing for all schools--MCCPTA
Improving communications from MCPS to parents--MCCPTA
Advocacy for a new superintendent search--MCCPTA
On and on...

Don't be ungrateful. If you want to get involved to help make a difference, volunteers are wanted.

Are you kidding? LOL. Are you trying to turn parents off from the PTA? Not sure if you are being sarcastic.

Restorative Justice? No thank you. I have seen what the results of that has been in my kids ES and MS.

Removing SROs? Despite the fact that principals wanted them to stay? And despite the fact that our SRO is amazing. No thanks.

Equitable practices for GT? Not on your life has this been a good thing.

Yeah, that is EXACTLY why I will not be giving a penny to either school’s PTA ever again. I will donate to classrooms and to our Band teacher. But otherwise, the PTA is completely opposite of what I would like to see happening.

Which is totally fine, and it can advocate for what it’s members want. Just pointing out that your ‘selling points’ of PTA advocacy might not appeal to all parents.

MCCPTA is supposed to be about county-wide issues facing all students, but they've been taken over during the past few years by the Silver Spring Takoma Park crazies. They only care about East County issues and nothing else. And those who matter no longer respect their opinion.

The Black and Brown Coalition has more respect County-wide, so if your interested in all children, get involved with this group, not MCCPTA.

They don't care about the east county issues either. They only care about their chosen things.

I know those SS/TKPK people are always going on about these crazy things like equity and educating all children! It's crazy because we really only care about our local W schools.

Why is it that these white people think they know better what Black and Brown kids need than actual Black and Brown people? That paternalistic view is the problem and its actually racist, but they don't understand that because they only have the best intentions even if they are intent on not listening to Black and Brown people.

We have three black woman and one Latino heritage lady sitting on BOE, and Black and Brown kids are still not being taken care of? The honest truth is nobody takes the MCCPTA advocacy seriously anyways.

Except that's what is leading to actual change. The BOE is not immune to structural racism. It's a system.

Thank you. Things like restorative justice, removing SROs, and being obsessed with equity over excellence are fringe. We need to elect reasonable people to the BOE who will hire reasonable administrators who will do away with this kind of nonsense.

+1 million

And those things do NOTHING to improve student outcomes, boost morale or lead to better educated kids. As we are seeing, they lead to an environment that is less conducive to learning and that encourages mediocracy for all.

Nice way to try to change the topic. We are talking about the MCCPTA acting as gatekeepers and not listening to Black and Brown families and allowing them full participation. Not whether the BOE does or does not listen to Black and Brown families.

I honestly don't believe these people posting this right wing propaganda even live here. They're probably paid astroturfers pushing the usual resentments and trying to sew animosity and discontent.

Maybe, but it’s what the PTA and parents and voters support in Montgomery County. This is a far left county.

No it isn't. Takoma Park is far left. The rest of the county is moderate Dem except for Damascus and Poolesville which are Republican.
You'd know all this if you ever left the co-op
