How does that not make him a veteran???

If he never went to Vietnam he isn't a Vietnam veteran. Actually this is more of an example of fake news because Phillips never said he was a "Vietnam veteran". He called himself a "Vietnam times veteran." It was the "fake" news outlets who changed it to Vietnam veteran without confirming.

Nobody says he wasn't a veteran. Just that he more than likely wasn't a VN veteran because of his age. Try and keep up.

I generally have way more sympathy for the kids than my liberal friends, but jeez, don't get carried away.

I went to high school with many people who enlisted in the 72-75 period. Not a one calls themselves a Vietnam era veteran although they could technically.

Actually some of the PR group was pushing that he was an actor hired by the radical left to trick these poor kids...

Phillips only ever said he was a veteran from the vietnam war era.

The media and twitterverse claimed he was a Vietnam veteran and Phillips did not correct it.

I'm not a veteran of any kind but if I were a Vietnam veteran I'd feel pretty gross about someone going around calling themselves a "Vietnam era veteran" when they didn't serve in Vietnam at all.

And now the grasping...

He was clarifying the time period when he served. There is nothing nefarious about that. Please. Give me a break. The gaslighting is horrendous.

"Vietnam times veteran"

meaning he was enlisted during this time period but never fought?

eh

Those poor souls who returned and who were destroyed for fighting a war that was never supported deserve our respect.

this dude?

Thank you for this link. I didn't realize it is also a legal term and that there is a specific code. In common parlance it makes sense anyway, but under public law he is accurate described as a Vietnam era vet under section 505(B).

Heaven forbid someone takes a knee at a football game, but lets argue about a vietnam vet vs vietnam era vet.

Of course it is okay for snotty teenagers to be disrespectful to vietnam era vets.
