Wouldn’t any school at least occasionally, by chance, have a decent team? If Wakefield isn’t willing to even be competitive, I’m not sure having a team is good for the girls.

Look. Wakefield never has a competitive team because girls lacrosse is an elitist north arlington sport. Starting with the arlington rec program, the sport is exclusively a north arlington game. All recruitment, all practices are in n arlington and only when the league needs game fields do they step foot
In south arlington. The county reinforces this by ignoring the middle schools
In south arlington by not providing goals for practice- all the fields in n arlington have goals on field- but ya can’t find one save two on the Wakefield
Campus albeit with holes in the net.

The lack of equity of play in the game is significant- by the time girls get to high school it is too late to start and be competitive with fx and n arlington students who have been playing for a decade both at rec and in club play.

Someone has a serious chip on their shoulder. Sounds like sour grapes. What the heck is “equity of play”? Take your politics elsewhere. Equality of opportunity the rest is up to the player. Nothing stopping those girls from signing up for rec lax at an early age.

This person is an idiot. Equality and Equity do not mean the same thing and you seem confused. There is neither equality nor equity in lacrosse.

What a joke SR and PVI would crush them

Yes the WP sports reporters don’t know a thing about girls hs lacrosse and the rankings clearly show that. WP in this case is not to be respected.

They highlight SSSA and Yorktown always because they are so not with the current vibes in Dc metro lacrosse. I mean who cares that Jenny tran had an acl injury does that mean her team gets empathy votes because she can’t train with them ?? And so tired of Kathy Jenkins. Boring.

Kathy Jenkins is one of the most respected coaches in the game of girls lacrosse for decades. She has won numerous championships, been nationally ranked, and graduated many athletes to play in top college programs.
No other coach has matched her entire coaching career’s success in the DMV. That is FACT.

Thank you for your insecure opinion about TWP rankings #teamKJforever

I don't think the poster is insecure about the rankings. IDK how a public school can be ranked as #5 when they have only played one school on the list. WP list is a joke.

Next troll please!

Equity - similar outcome despite differences in individual effort or starting point
Equality - equal starting point, outcome determined by the individual’s efforts

Agree neither exist in Lacrosse nor many other sports. On that note, Pele starting playing soccer barefoot with a stuffed sack full of rags. He did Ok.

Looking forward to watching the Class 6 state semifinal game between region C & D winners to determine the state Class champion. The actual state final game will be more like a charity benefit concert.

Any updates from Centreville? Did they fire up the grill tonight? Do they have bbq? How is the lacrosse?

Way to go South Lakes! Happy for them as they have put out some great competition on top teams all season.

Lacrosse in general does not get the lions share of athletes to begin with. Very little television exposure impacts its appeal to young kids. Very little scholarship money impacts the decisions to focus solely on the sport. Zero professional careers post college limits the big payoff for many. Kids play for the fun of it and for the sportsmanship. It really is t that expensive. Very little gear for girls. One stick can and should last for years. All other sports rely heavily upon travel (soccer basketball softball volleyball dance etc…) I think parents in general across all sports are ruining the true greatness of youth sports

No magic in the BBQ sauce tonite. Sure we will get an explanation in the morning.

If playing D1 lacrosse is the player’s goal, then it is very expensive and also relies on travel clubs. Not only the equipment and travel club fees, but prospect camps (and related travel expenses) to gain exposure to college coaches. Also, if the kid is on that track, they need two sticks, and will have to restring or replace heads at least once a year. I would hate to go back and add it all up.
