I've got South Lakes winning this one. |
Centreville is at home also…Should be a great game for sure. |
Kathy Jenkins is one of the most respected coaches in the game of girls lacrosse for decades. She has won numerous championships, been nationally ranked, and graduated many athletes to play in top college programs. No other coach has matched her entire coaching career’s success in the DMV. That is FACT. Thank you for your insecure opinion about TWP rankings #teamKJforever Next troll please! |
Don't have the Arlington expertise to comment on the above, and the tone is intense, but the PP brings up a very important issue that I think we have to work on as a community--drawing in more minorities and lower-income athletes into girls lacrosse. Lacrosse is an expensive sport. From the equipment (good stick over $300 now), to leagues and clinics, and certainly for club/travel teams. And to the poster's point, if there are no goals, it's hard to do much to work on your game. I don't profess to have the answers, but I believe those of us who enjoy the game and what it does for our daughters, and sit comfortably in HS pyramids that have good lacrosse feeder programs, have a responsibility to try and improve access for other. The results will benefit the community, the sport, and maybe make a difference in some young people's lives. |
Centreville should win this game by 3 or 4 goals but South Lakes could keep this "Close but no Cigar". "Its origins back in the 1920s when carnivals would hand out cigars as prizes. These games were obviously targeted at adults and not children. Carnival games were very difficult to win and the stand owner would simply shout the phrase when the player miserably failed to win. Hence no cigar as a reward." |
Is Centreville back to full strength after a tough run with injuries?
Going to be a good game. We’re going out to catch this one, hope they have BBQ. |
From what I heard, Dominion won almost every draw and had at least a dozen or more 8 meter shots with multiple attempts. Dominion is a good team with a good goalie. Enjoy it while it lasts. |
Agree. Some solid talent with Dominion seniors this year. I don’t think Yorktown has any seniors who are playing college lax in the fall. |
Someone has a serious chip on their shoulder. Sounds like sour grapes. What the heck is “equity of play”? Take your politics elsewhere. Equality of opportunity the rest is up to the player. Nothing stopping those girls from signing up for rec lax at an early age. |
I don’t understand why privates are grouped with publics. It’s a completely different playing field. Privates can and do consistently recruit top players from the NoVa area, that’s why they have good teams from year to year. Publics get what they get and if they are fortunate to get a group of excellent players who stick with their HS for 4 years they can do well, i.e. Langley. |
Unfortunately, this is the current sad state of high school sports. And it’s only going to get worse. In many cases if you don’t play club (and parents willing to pay the ante) from an early age, you’ll have no chance of competing at the high school level. There was a time when rec and the school programs were all the kids needed to be competitive. |
Cheering on SL!! |
OK SSSA parent. Yes, she has been around the block but let's have news stories on NEWS not on an old coach rebuilding her elitist school's club team. |
SSSA is elitist? That’s news to me. So you pay money and that makes your school elitist. KJ is overrated. The school attracts the talent based on their history. Has nothing to do with the coach. Put KJ in charge of Wakefield and let’s see how she does there. Same reason why Bucky left Langley, he left when he saw the incoming talent was falling off. |
^^^^ this statement is exactly what is wrong with the sport. The fact that this poster doesn't understand equity of play is indicative of the state of affairs. Period. |
