Please don’t put it those terms. Feds just want to do their jobs, like everyone else. Nothing — and I mean nothing — about this is vacation-like.

You are not working, and getting paid for it. That's about as vacation-like as it gets.

You know it’s not a vacation.

If someone told me I couldn't work, would get paid for the time, and needed to stay home, I'd absolutely consider it a vacation. The fact that you can't spend it at the beach doesn't change that.

Well we were supposed to take an actual vacation in October until DH’s division decided everyone should be “essential” during a shutdown so now he won’t be able to take actual leave for a vacation! Such a joke, all of it.

You should have gotten guidance from your management team by now. We've been given a list of "orderly shutdown" tasks to be performed on Monday morning; up to 4 hours can be used for this. Our management has said that we can do this remotely if we want.

Do your vacations usually end at arbitrary times without notice and require you to report to work within four hours?

I would be ok with that! I’d stay home and get caught up on projects around the house. Read a few books, try new recipes, exercise….

But it’s not a vacation.

Semantics! Will be so nice, especially with the kids in school!

GPS is a Federal service.

Maybe TSA agents will heroically step in to call out sick rather than work without pay and force the holdouts to fall in line

GPS IS USED WORLDWIDE AND EVEN THOUGH IT'S OWNED BY THE US GOVERNMENT IT WILL NOT BE SHUT OFF IN A SHUTDOWN.

EVERY WORLD LEADER WOULD COME DOWN HARD ON THE US.

HUD is using carryover funds to stay open until at least 10/7, maybe longer.
