This is the longest DCUM thread I’ve ever followed, and read every post… |
This shocks no one. |
I love that the sane Rs and crazy Rs banded together on this one.... |
It shocked our optimist friend. I’m sorry to report that it appears we may be shutting down. |
Just pass a clean CR and call it day. Discretionary cuts won't fly in the Senate. Ukraine and Disaster $ won't fly in the House. It's too late to start negotiations on border funding. Just straightline it--the crazies will vote against it anyway, but enough R's will be on board to pass it in the House and at this point the Senate D's will just need to man up and agree to a clean version that doesn't give them what they want. Easy peasy. |
Republicans need democrats to pass a clean CR and McCarthy knows that he will lose the speakership if he goes down that road |
I’m sure he’s waiting for new talking points from the mothership, but yeah, it’s hard to imagine how a shutdown won’t happen at this point. |
The question now becomes, do they throw up their hands and recess after whatever meeting the republicans have at 4 fails to avert this or do they intend to work over the weekend? |
He can't get a CR w/deep cuts through. He has to get something to the floor that everyone (minus the freedom caucus) will agree to. That's called governing. Dems will all vote for a clean CR and we need just a small number of R's to move over to make this happen. It's called governing. He'll lose the speakership either way. They already want to replace him because he's not going deep on their demands. He can shut down the government, get a CR done, and then step aside, which he'll have to do either way. He's holding onto a fantasy. |
Looks like some of you are getting a (delayed paid) vacation. |
Yeah, we’ll, i don’t have any $$$ to go on vacation if this lasts too long… |
They just need to use a procedural maneuver like defeating the PQ or hijacking another rule to get the Senate CR on the floor-- that way McCarthy can't really be blamed and the sane people get a floor vote. |
Nope - I’m a contractor and we have been informed we will not receive back pay. We can take PTO or LWOP. |
Plus, need to prepare to report back quickly after shutdown. I think last time it was within 4 business hours? Anyone else remember? Between that plus no paycheck, this is no vacation. |
I’m sorry, it hits contractors differently. I hope you will be ok. |
