Maybe on the substantive vote it’ll end up passing the House. Then, onto the Senate for a last minute compromise that Biden could live with?

CNN just reported that it's just for show and the far right Republicans have zero intention of voting for it. So it's highly unlikely it will help.

when do they vote on it?

Soon. The vote that passed was just the rule to debate the actual bill. Debate happening now.

"later this afternoon" - not sure exactly when that would be.

DP. Around 1:30 it seems. Can McCarthy the Magician pull this one off?

No one thought the procedural vote would turn out the way it did. We’ll see.

even if the House passes their own CR today which contains a 29% cut to non-defense discretionary spending, it won't get through the Senate. This is just for show. He just wants to say his chamber passed their bill so he can punt it back to the Senate. they're still worlds apart.

For example, they come to an agreement next Friday on a bill to temporarily fund the government for another 30 days. Or is the legislature's job then to negotiate to come up with appropriations with for the whole FY?

they can still do a CR as far as I know

They can still do a CR. They can also pass SOME of the appropriations bills, reopening some parts of the government. And they can mix the two—pass a few approps bills, CR the rest.

This. The House CR is DOA in the Senate.

A 29% cut is apocalyptic.

Yeah don’t know about that. The “moderate” dems in the senate will push for it. Chuck Schumer is not a strong leader.
