Why are goldendoodles so popular?

+1.

All the hair dogs are ugly. And the disgusting muzzle. Yuck

Concur. People seem to be fans of fuzzy/curly dogs or long-haired/silky dogs, but can't we all agree that dirty muzzle hair is gross, gross, GROSS?

+1, really grosses me out and they’re not cute at all. Give me a furry Aussie, husky, or lab any day over that creepy hair.

I think they’re cute but I don’t like the feel of hair. I prefer dogs that are soft and enjoyable to pet. Dogs with hair are always a bit smelly and rough.

I got a labradoodle because I wanted a non shedding dog.

Non shedding my @$$. Ended up with the best of both breeds - her hair grows as long as a poodle’s, and sheds as much as a lab’s. So I have gross, long hairs EVERYWHERE. Have to vacuum and brush her daily or it gets out of control. Haven’t vacuumed in three days and the hallways is literally filled with giant dog hair dust bunnies and my carpets almost completely white (they’re *supposed* to be orange).

We have a Shih Tzu. Yes I do agree sometimes the facial hair does get in the way, ie when she laps up the yogurt from her bowl. But it is nothing a wet towel and a quick wipe can’t take care of. We wash and brush her face at the end of the day (takes less than 5 mins). Give her a good rub down as part of her night routine after the last walk. She loves it and we have one clean doggo.

They don't shed

They are cute as hell, except for the massive mangy looking ones but that's because those were most likely terrible breeders.

My puppy is smarter than 90% of humans..and I don't mean that as a joke. Majority of people are morons, my dog isn't

They are some of the softest dogs I've ever felt

She is a lap dog, loves snuggling

Can go on 4-6 mile hikes no problem

What other dog breed can do all of this?

A Chihuahua

I don’t think this is a cute dog either, but neither my goldendoodle nor my sheepadoodle look anything like that. They have longer flatter fur. It’s a lot to maintain with the groomer to keep the fur long and nonmatted, but the non shedding aspect is a godsend for a neat freak like myself. And their sweet personalities - especially the sheepadoodle! - are perfect for a family with young kids.

I don’t have strong opinions about the breed. However, a lot of owners near me don’t seem to be prepared for the intelligence of a poodle (which means keeping them trained and occupied are key) with the energy and needs for affection of a golden. I live next to a very barky one, so I’m not sure if that’s a breed characteristic or just bad luck in this one instance.

I’ve also seen quite a few households have to shave down their golden doodles. While they might not shed the way a longer-coated dog does, they still need regular grooming with a slicker brush and a comb.

Groomers HATE Doodles, and it is for this reason, though they generally think they're nice dogs. People pick a non shedding dog because they want low maintenance for house cleaning, but these people also tend to pick the lazy way generally and don't recognize a Doodle is actually very HIGH maintenance in terms of grooming. They have to be brushed daily, ideally. They are very quick to develop mats and those have to be shaved off. My dogs (Goldens) love love love Doodles but that grooming schedule is not a suggestion. 6-8 weeks max and daily brushing.

My groomer loves my two doodles because they make her a lot of money. It’s expensive to maintain.

Anonymous wrote:So weird that people are calling it a status symbol. As far as dogs that aren’t mutts go, they are one of the less expensive breeds. A Portuguese Water Dog around here is 4500 last I looked and a goldendoodle ideas 2500. Plus they don’t exactly look fancy.

Doodles ARE mutts. Designer mutts. They are not a “breed,” they’re just trendy.
