Why are goldendoodles so popular?

Breaking news, humans often have differing opinions that can contradict each other! More shocking news at 9 and 11….

I just think they're cute. I love shaggy dogs, especially those with shaggy snouts, and the no shedding thing is awesome. And I love their personalities - they just always look like they have a little mischief in their eyes, goofy, lovable, derpy, doofus-y. Every doodle I know has that personality and it's so cute. I don't have one, BTW- we have a soft coated wheaten terrier. But I would consider getting a doodle.

Does anyone know if goldendoodles pick up the cancer gene? We lost our beloved Golden about two years ago. I can’t get another Golden because they all look so similar I’m worried the new dog would remind us too much of our old dog. We considered a Golden doodle but could never find clear answers on the genetic cancer link.

I can’t get over how ugly they are. Golden doodles and pits are the fugliest.

I have to agree. I have a true mini (19-21 lbs.) and he still looks like he did when he was a one years old. The standard ones have big snouts and long bodies but they all have a nice temperament.

Are Muppets cute? I don't particularly think so. I hate that shaggy face look. Shudder.

They are cute enough, buts that’s not why people buy one.

I don’t think there’s necessarily a golden cancer gene. Our golden lived to 13 and I know plenty that have. BUT there was also a significant research study that came out a few years ago saying that the practice of early neutering was significantly increasing the risk of cancer—-they did several variations of the study and the effect was most profound in male goldens (and basically negligible in female toy breeds). So the standard advice now for goldens and similar large breed is to wait until 18-24 months to neuter because of the effects on hormone development (basically they need to go through puberty). I doubt golden doodles are significantly different than goldens in cancer risk but I’m not sure there data on that.

So tell us what you think is cute. Bet they are cuter than you!

Well, I’m not a dog, so I am not expected to look cute. What I think is cute is a good old hound dog. Nobody can deny the cuteness of a dog like a beagle. The sweet eyes and the long floppy ears. Dogs from the hound group are cute.
