I don’t have strong opinions about the breed. However, a lot of owners near me don’t seem to be prepared for the intelligence of a poodle (which means keeping them trained and occupied are key) with the energy and needs for affection of a golden. I live next to a very barky one, so I’m not sure if that’s a breed characteristic or just bad luck in this one instance. I’ve also seen quite a few households have to shave down their golden doodles. While they might not shed the way a longer-coated dog does, they still need regular grooming with a slicker brush and a comb.
Groomers HATE Doodles, and it is for this reason, though they generally think they're nice dogs. People pick a non shedding dog because they want low maintenance for house cleaning, but these people also tend to pick the lazy way generally and don't recognize a Doodle is actually very HIGH maintenance in terms of grooming. They have to be brushed daily, ideally. They are very quick to develop mats and those have to be shaved off. My dogs (Goldens) love love love Doodles but that grooming schedule is not a suggestion. 6-8 weeks max and daily brushing.
