Why are goldendoodles so popular?

Status symbol, keeping up with the Jones’s, ignorance about the breeding industry..........

Why doodle when you can poodle? Most “doodles” are 75% poodles anyway. Everyone thinks our 100% standard is a labradoodle or goldendoodle. Worrisome because poodles are an actual breed with predictable qualities unlike doodles.

My golden doodle is 13, so we got him before doodles were everywhere. Wanted a golden but without the shedding. He is the BEST! Fun, sweet, always a happy boy. He seems smart to me and our whole family loves him. We got him as a puppy, and he was never wild. I don’t groom him as often as I should- probably 4 times a year. Gonna go pet him now. He’s enjoying cicada season.

No shed. Fluffy and cute.

Mini Berna doodles are the cutest!!!!! But the big bernadoodles can be ugly.

I don't care what sort of dog we have or what it looks like, as long as it's low / no shed and low allergy.

Get a Rhodesian Ridgeback. Best dog ever.

I don't get the dislike of goldendoodles. My mom is the queen of dog boarding in our area (Bay Area) and while I have never owned any sort of doodle, every goldendoodle she boards is adorable and sweet. Yes, they can be high energy, but welcome to dog ownership.

WTF. People act like dogs are investments.

It’s because they don’t shed. People say allergies as an excuse to get one but if you’re truly allergic, the saliva will still get you.

Are you too lazy to vacuum? Then a golden doodle is perfect for you.

I have a pure bred golden and let me tell you, the shedding is real. I vacuum every day and hair is still everywhere. A no shed dog sounds great to me.

I really dislike poodle curly hair and the golden doodles appear to just get matted dirty hair (the ones I’ve seen) but to each her own.

So weird that people are calling it a status symbol. As far as dogs that aren’t mutts go, they are one of the less expensive breeds. A Portuguese Water Dog around here is 4500 last I looked and a goldendoodle ideas 2500. Plus they don’t exactly look fancy.

No/minimal shedding.
Relatively easy to train.
No loud barking.
Doesn’t seem to be prone to major health issues.
On the smaller side (no massive poops, okay with a small yard)
Good with kids
Unnecessary to do a ton of grooming

I would really prefer a cuter breed but I think we are stuck with this one.

What about a Brittany?

They shed, whine, and pee when they get excited.

All of your points can be valid except for the last. They do require a ton of grooming otherwise their hair would be all matted up.

But with grooming we are just talking brushing their hair right? Not regular visits to get it cut?

Oh my gosh, no—you have to shave it every 6-8 weeks plus frequent brushing at home, or the whole coat is a matted mess.

Okay yeah but it’s not a ton compared to the other breeds we were looking at like terriers and Cavalier King Charles Spaniel.

I don’t like their hair. It is not like fur. Fur is soft while hair is more like wire. Their muzzles always look discolored and wet. There are sooooo many of them. Doodles are all you ever see anymore. As a dog lover it is sad to me that so many dog owners opt for these when there are so many great dogs out there. If you mind dog hair don’t have a dog or learn to vacuum. Not a big deal.
