Why are goldendoodles so popular?

They don't shed

They are cute as hell, except for the massive mangy looking ones but that's because those were most likely terrible breeders.

My puppy is smarter than 90% of humans..and I don't mean that as a joke. Majority of people are morons, my dog isn't

They are some of the softest dogs I've ever felt

She is a lap dog, loves snuggling

Can go on 4-6 mile hikes no problem

What other dog breed can do all of this?

My poodle meets all of this criteria. The thing is I don’t give him a standard poodle cut, so most people assume he’s a doodle

Can't I have my own opinion? I think they are ugly because I dislike dogs with shaggy muzzles. I like smooth snouts. I also think that bulldogs and pugs are ugly, and I'm sure their are lots of people in the world who think they are very attractive.

Posted by a profiteer or a puppy mill. Don't buy these dogs. There is a reason they are not AKC-recognized. It's an ethics issue. Be an informed prospective pet owner.

Right and then you hear about the overbred purebreds with hip problems and short lives. Not sure what the obsession is over purebreds.

Those would also be puppy farms and you should not purchase from those either.

Only reputable AKC breeds from ethical breeders or animal shelter/rescue is the only way to ensure that you aren't contributing to pet overpopulation for profit.

Lol or someone who bought one from a reputable breeder not some puppy mill in PA. It’s not an ethics issue. You’re a bore of a human. I did hours upon hours of research and wanted a doodle.

People want the personality of the Golden and the lack of shedding from the poodle but this often does not happen. I wish breeders were much more honest about the type of dog your puppy could become so that people could really understand that their ‘oodle’ may or may not shed so they should not get an ‘oodle’ if they require a non-shedding breed. And the puppy may or may not have the golden personality so they should not get an ‘oodle’ if they really need that personality type. i am so tired of hearing about people who give thousands of dollars to a breeder who has assured them their new puppy will be low to no shed and when discovering the dog sheds then gives the dog away or gives to rescue. I blame the breeders for propagating misinformation. As a buyer please try and support reputable breeders who are honest. I do not dislike ‘oodles’ - I dislike breeders who lie for profit and owners who buy dogs without really doing research so then give them up.

Where do you live? We have been looking for a doodle for over a year, but prefer to rescue, and I never see them in DC-area rescues! Actually, I did see one last summer and we put in an application for him, but the lady said they got 50 applications for him!

Please share!!!

Agree, i looked for months for a rescue oodle to no avail. I don't think this is common.

Contact Poodle Rescue groups. Every poodle rescue page I have seen recently includes doodles.

+100

We LOVE our mini goldendoodle puppy. She is SO beautiful and adorable that people literally stop their cards on the street to ask what breed she is and who her breeder is. She is the smartest dog I've ever met and was fully trained in most of her commands by the second week we brought her home. She LOVES to cuddle and is SO friendly and funny and charming.

We joke about how she literally acts like a litter person because she is!

C'mon. I'm not a doodle person but that's extremely cute. Like a real-life Muppet!

Yeah I don't like the way that dog above looks at all. I'm just not a fan of the shaggy dog look especially in the face.

Also I think a lot of the golden doodle hate is just because there are so many of them. Honestly at least 50-75% of the people I know who have gotten dogs in the last few years have gotten some sort of doodle mix. Mostly golden doodles but also lots of berna-doodles and labra-doodles. There is such a huge variety of dogs out there, why does everyone focus so narrowly on these few breeds.

Because they are wonderful!

It’s funny that so many people in Arlington got lockdown doodles. I no longer live in DC metro and the lockdown dogs in my area were random breeds like really ugly Jack Russells, an Australian Shepherd and some Belgian thing.

Geez there are some strong opinions on doodles! We’re mutt owners and always get rescues just because that’s our thing but I’ve gotta say, the non-shedding thing sounds so nice. Plus, these dogs are adorable! If I didn’t have such strong feelings about the breeding industry, I’d consider one.
