Still find it hard to believe that Megan knew so little about Diana--she was 16 when she died and it was a very, very big deal. Clearly, Megan likes and is interested in the celebrity life. Kind of hard to feel too sorry for them since they just purchased a $15 million property. And, they couldn't afford security? Somehow, all that seemed a little shallow.

To me, neither side in this story is innocent of poor behavior.

Yes on both counts!

Any psychologist would have a field day with the family of origin issues playing out in their marriage.

Histrionic personality disorder was definitely Di and Meghan clearly is afflicted too. This drew Harry in like honey to a bee. He spent his childhood trying to help Momma when she was erratic and crying. He is re-living the 'helpless little boy'. And hoping he gets a 2nd chance to fix it.

Meghan has a lot of her dad in her. She wanted fame and narcissistic attention. She did NOT like having to stay 3 steps behind Kate and Will and in a back row on the balcony as protocol dictated.

She is so grandiose that she thought she was going to come in a change everything.

The British press is awful. There is no excuse for what they did. However, none of that should have been a shock.

Remember the play King Charles III? In the end, William and Kate are trying to advise Charles to not screw it up. Charles does. And it ends with Harry falling in love with a black girl and taking a path away from the rest of the family.

She has credibility issues. There is no way she wasn't obsessed with Princess Di and the royal family. We already know this.
That said, do I believe she suffered while under their thumb? Yes.

Yes, she accepted the title without knowing or accepting what the job would entail? I feel for her on many levels but find it unbelievable that she could have done NO research before going into this, as she claimed.

This is why Harry's previous girlfriends - British society types - wouldn't marry him. They knew enough to avoid being trapped in the royal fish bowl. Was Harry not completely honest with Meghan before they got married?

And poor Harry - he has so many unresolved issues, and his whole life he's tried to run away. Going to Afghanistan - twice. Marrying Meghan, a biracial American. Now moving to the US. I worry about him.

+1. His exes came from mega wealthy families, ran in the same circles as Harry and William, and knew exactly what was in store. Kate knew too. MM pretty much went in blind, thinking she'd snagged a handsome, rich prince...

A person Morton identifies as a childhood friend of Markle’s is quoted in the book saying the former actress was in fact “always fascinated by the royal family.”

The friend is also quoted as saying Markle “wants to be Princess Diana 2.0,” referring to Harry’s late mother, who was a noted humanitarian.

Markle, who graduated from Northwestern University, is also a humanitarian who worked with the United Nations on women’s issues and was an ambassador for World Vision prior to meeting Harry.

Morton interviewed Markle’s teenage friends who claim Markle was crying as they watched the funeral for Diana in 1997.

“According to family and friends, she was intrigued by Diana not just for her style but for her independent humanitarian mission, seeing her as a role model,” Morton writes.

I am approximately all of their ages (me and my siblings), and I was ....

Ok I just checked!! Yes, she was 16. Just turned 16 that month.
I was 13, and she is 2 years older; however her birthday is before mine.

This is the first thing I thought when I watched the interview last night. It had been widely reported when they were dating that she always had been fascinated by the Royal family which is why her now ignorance of it is not holding up.

I thought she should know that yes you curtsy to the queen and that you give up a lot of personal freedoms, absolutely.

Her claim that she thought it was just going to be like normal in meeting a boyfriend’s grandmother is laughable, also that she never googled anything about the royal family prior to/while dating Harry. It diminishes some of her credibility for the more serious allegations.

In interviews before the wedding, she claimed that before meeting Harry, she didn't know who he was.

We are expected to believe this?

Everyone going on and on about security is missing the point of the interview entirely. It’s not about the security—it’s about the fact that the security is necessary in the first place because the Firm enables the tabloid press. They know that if the tabs turn on them, they are done. So the BRF is actually on both sides of the thing. Diana turning down security (because she believed, rightly or wrongly, that they were plotting to get rid of her) doesn’t change the responsibility the family had for accommodating and stoking the relationship with the press in the first place.

They did it 40 years ago and they’re still doing it. Harry’s mother being chased to her death had no impact on this system. I’m not surprised he wants out; he may be the only sane one in the family.
