Any guesses where Pete and Chasten Buttigieg will live in the DMV?

How do you know they wouldn’t adopt? I feel like they would be the kind of couple to adopt children.

I imagine they will have kids. They have talked about it.

I suspect they will rent. Who knows how long he will be in the cabinet. And 2024 could very well bring in a new administration (and I suspect it will, and it won't be Democratic).

But my real question is do people who receive high level appointments receive more favorable mortgage terms? Are they allowed to borrow more?

“Either DuPont like Kamala and Doug or Kalorama like the Obamas and Trumps. Georgetown could work as well.”

What year do you live in? No millennial wants to live in these neighborhoods

No, of course not. If anything they must make sure they are not receiving a sweet deal from anyone.

Non-staffers do. If we want to go to Happy Hour the Wharf is a 5-minute private car away.

"Former military families" do not specifically seek out other "former military families" to live near.

I dunno, I like living amongst military folks. There’s a common ground to it. And everyone keeps their lawn up nicely.

Pete doesn't strike me as someone whose military background is important enough to his identity that he'd seek out other military families to live among.

And military people don't like gay people.

Va. Code Ann. §§ 20-156 to -165 (2007); see also Va. Code Ann. §§ 32.1-257, 64.1-5.1, & 64.1-8.1 (2007)
Virginia requires pre-authorization of a surrogacy contract by a court. If the contract is approved, then the intended parents will be the legal parents. If the contract is voided, the surrogate mother and her husband, if any, will be named the legal parents and the intended parents will only be able to acquire parental rights through adoption. If the contract was never approved, then the surrogate can file a consent form relinquishing rights to the child. But if she does not, the parental rights will vary based on whether either of the intended parents have a genetic relationship to the child. Depending on the circumstances, they may need to adopt in order to obtain parental rights. Notwithstanding all of the above, if the surrogate is the genetic mother, she may terminate the contract within the first six months of pregnancy.

We had a baby via GC in Virginia last year. As long as you have a competent lawyer you’re fine.

They don’t have a kid yet, and for gays it takes years. Unless they’ve already been actively working on it for years, they’re not factoring in a kid right now.

And budget won’t matter. Between they’re book deals and speaker fees they’re rolling in it.

Took us gays 17 months from start to bringing DD home....not sure where you got your info from.

Congrats. (Sincerely). Most people aren’t that lucky.

You can go to any coffee shop and find six women willing to be surrogates. We hired someone in May and had a baby the following March. It helped that we lived in DC and that the gestational carrier was able to live with her boyfriend in DC.

That’s great for you but surrogacy contracts are illegal in many states and specifically unenforceable in Buttigieg’s home state of Indiana. To have the protections of a state like the District of Columbia he needs to establish residency here and hire a heck of a vetting team or agency.

Not to mention a man who wants to be in the Oval Office better do everything by the book - starting with not approaching strange women in coffee shops and asking them bear his baby.

I’m sure PP was speaking tongue in cheek but the visual of approaching random women to be surrogates is so disgusting. Also surrogates should not also be the egg donor so one would have to find an egg donor in addition to a surrogate.

Given this... maybe Foxhall or Palisades.

Sh-t, that's gorgeous. Makes me want to temporarily trade him my 5-bedroom in Bethesda with a fenced yard, and I'll take the house in South Bend. If he and Chasten would take my husband too, I'd definitely do it. I bet it's nicely decorated even.

What areas around here would have similar historic homes, with scenic views as this one has? I can’t really think of anything equivalent, either in terms of architectural style or views..

There are a few similar houses in mt pleasant, although most have been chopped to condos & no views. A few in Cleveland park but high 4s.

That’s a really dated assumption that doesn’t hold up these days.

I don’t care for that particular house, but this is close.

Pete will be driven to/from work each day by DOT uniformed officers. Something within a 10 minute drive from the office. Chasten can get a teaching job in one of the many nearby charter or DCPS schools. Room to grow for kids, plus lots of other young families around. Cap Hill is super progressive and friendly to LGBTQ professional families.

That puts them on the Hill. They are not crunchy, so TP is out out.

Boom.

The house is ugly and way too close to the neighbors in a place like South Bend. I hope they do way better here.

According to his financial disclosure, their mortgage in South Bend was $400 a month.
