Any guesses where Pete and Chasten Buttigieg will live in the DMV?

That's a horrible name.

You obviously have no idea who we are talking about.

HIS name, of course. Chasten was also a person recently eliminated from the Bachelorette. So there's two people I never thought would be named Chasten.

They don’t have a kid yet, and for gays it takes years. Unless they’ve already been actively working on it for years, they’re not factoring in a kid right now.

And budget won’t matter. Between they’re book deals and speaker fees they’re rolling in it.

Took us gays 17 months from start to bringing DD home....not sure where you got your info from.

Congrats. (Sincerely). Most people aren’t that lucky.

"Former military families" do not specifically seek out other "former military families" to live near.

I dunno, I like living amongst military folks. There’s a common ground to it. And everyone keeps their lawn up nicely.

I realize this is not the point of this thread, but there are a good number of military families on the Hill. Mostly more senior officers and dual-income families working at nearby Navy Yard/Marine Barracks/Pentagon... the commute is awesome; I bike down the Mall and across the river.

You can go to any coffee shop and find six women willing to be surrogates. We hired someone in May and had a baby the following March. It helped that we lived in DC and that the gestational carrier was able to live with her boyfriend in DC.

They don’t really have much money, do they. They’ll probably get a below-market rental on the Hill from some friend of the Bidens.

Pretty sure cabinet level folk get motorcades.

I'm old enough to remember when a serious cabinet secretary, that is at Treasury, took the bus. But yeah, new Democrats, now old Democrats, wouldn't do that.

Well, we've got a pandemic now, so probably not exactly the same thing. But whatever.

Neither of them strike me as crunchy.

yeah. gay and crunchy aren't necessarily synonymous lol. Pete was a McKinsey consultant, intelligence officer, officer in the Navy...

Yeah, I agree that they're not crunchy. And they are from the mid West. I think Navy Yard, Rosslyn/Clarendon or Tysons.
I just read about the dogs. That changes my votes to Vienna or even Springfield. If they want to have dogs and kids then they'll want a house with space. It would also make working for FCPS an easy choice as the following spouse.

They're not moving to freaking Virginia.

Arlington or maybe Old Town.

I also think Del Ray would be a good candidate.

Yeah I think Alexandria or South Arlington. It’s an area known for being super into dogs, it’s cheaper than the district, more spacious, and I think living in Virginia actually looks better for Pete politically.

Omg they are going to be the toast of the town. They are going to live in the district, not the suburbs. Hill seems most likely but many of the highly successful gay people in my circle live in Bloomingdale/ Ledroit Park so I’ll throw that out there. Gorgeous architecture.

That’s great for you but surrogacy contracts are illegal in many states and specifically unenforceable in Buttigieg’s home state of Indiana. To have the protections of a state like the District of Columbia he needs to establish residency here and hire a heck of a vetting team or agency.

Not to mention a man who wants to be in the Oval Office better do everything by the book - starting with not approaching strange women in coffee shops and asking them bear his baby.

For those of you absolutely sure Pete is going to have a child in the next four years - I wouldn’t move to Virginia knowing this:

Va. Code Ann. §§ 20-156 to -165 (2007); see also Va. Code Ann. §§ 32.1-257, 64.1-5.1, & 64.1-8.1 (2007)
Virginia requires pre-authorization of a surrogacy contract by a court. If the contract is approved, then the intended parents will be the legal parents. If the contract is voided, the surrogate mother and her husband, if any, will be named the legal parents and the intended parents will only be able to acquire parental rights through adoption. If the contract was never approved, then the surrogate can file a consent form relinquishing rights to the child. But if she does not, the parental rights will vary based on whether either of the intended parents have a genetic relationship to the child. Depending on the circumstances, they may need to adopt in order to obtain parental rights. Notwithstanding all of the above, if the surrogate is the genetic mother, she may terminate the contract within the first six months of pregnancy.
