Any guesses where Pete and Chasten Buttigieg will live in the DMV?

I think that they were probably trying to keep everything private and then a reporter caught the scent. So they told the news themselves rather than be outed.

At least this way they can control the news.

Yes.

Could well be a surrogacy that’s far along. It’s just like a straight couple announcing that they are pregnant.

A straight couple wouldn't announce a pregnancy as a 'process'. Neither did Anderson Cooper - he announced when the baby arrived. By the sudden arrival it doesn't sound like a surrogacy at all. They've have 9 months of forewarning.

That's a nice idea, but honestly, I don't know if it's fair to put an older kid into a family with such a high public profile, especially with gay parents who are already going to have the enmity of right-wing yahoos who don't respect boundaries. Margorie Taylor Greene going after David Hogg is only the most notable example. It would be tougher to guard the privacy of an older kid than a really young one, and the transition would be sudden.

On the other hand, Pete and Chasten seem like they'll be the kind of parents any kid would be lucky to have, so there's that.

Couldn’t it just be an adoption but the period of time where the birth parent can revoke hasn’t ended yet?

I assume the news was going to leak so they decided to announce themselves.

Birth parents have a long time in DC.

That's my assumption. They probably have the baby at their home now but the 30 day window for the birth parents to change their mind hasn't elapsed.

+1 Exactly my first two thoughts. The timing seems terrible for Pete to be an involved parent but my guess is Chasten has been pushing for this for a while. Fingers crossed the transition goes as smoothly as possible and that the new little family stays happy and well.

Pete will probably always have demanding schedule. Might as well just go for it.

I'm really happy for them!

IDK. Is there such a thing as a adoption baby shower? Maybe they're having one and thought the news would leak.

Yes, there is such a thing. Know why? Because your friends are happy for you when you become parents.

We had a “meet the baby” “shower” after we adopted the baby. No need to tempt fate beforehand, especially since we had already had a fall-through on another child.

Why are you guys so obsessed with him?

Older kids in foster care may require more attention, privacy, and stability than a politician and spouse can provide. My DS was adopted as a young teen with limited trauma. He is very easy-going on the outside, but inside so sensitive to anything he perceives as a threat to our family or the idea that we might move. It has taken so long for him to think he could make mistakes and we wouldn’t send him away. Breaks my heart! I can imagine a 9 year old from DC foster care under the spotlight of right wing trolls would be so stressed.

Bet it’s an adoption. Think about it...

Well, we have two kids who were born into our family and one whom we adopted. Friends hosted showers for us all three times -- all were lovely events.

My god, THANK YOU PETE & CHASTEN for adding some Good News into the world! Seriously, this last week has been the worst. Between the earthquake in Haiti, the Coronavirus and deaths in the South, Afghanistan nightmare... at least there is ONE news story that is really good news.

Congrats to them!
