Summer Swim Canceled

They’re all going to clump at the wall, and anyway, they’d need to run pretty continuous sets to keep the spacing just right. It would take a ton of work to get rid of ingrained habits from thousands of hours in the pool.

Club swimmers could do this. It would be very hard for everyone else.

I think the guidance is really focused on club teams anyway.

The guidance from USA swimming is clearly for club swimmers. But I think most people posting here are hoping for summer swim team for their nonclub swimmers.

6 ft of distance won’t necessarily be a component of pools reopening.

True, but that’s the recommendation. What? You think it’s suggested it be 6’ on 6/9 and it’s safe closer than that on 6/11...despite raising numbers, insufficient testing, no proof there is immunity once you have it, poor tracing, still highly contagious, with no vaccine, etc...?

I don’t accept your premise that 6 ft will be a required social distance at outdoor pools at the point that they reopen. Maybe it will, or maybe by that point we will know more about seasonality and the power of sunlight to kill the virus, and it won’t be considered necessary.

You completely missed my point. The point I’m saying is that whether a 6’ distance is required or not doesn’t change That that’s is really best. Meaning just bc summer pools open it doesn’t change the guidelines that we should all follow.

It came out in an email from our team coordinator. She sent an email from the league.

Oh no! Such sad news, we were watching to see what NVSL decided. Our league in MD (a smaller league) isn't scheduled to make a decision until next week, but I fear the same thing will happen.

I’ve been posting for weeks saying there was no way it could be done for summer swim and tons of people disagreed. There really was no way.

Announcement is posted on the website.

It’s like you assume it will happen but still a bummer when it’s official, even if it’s the right decision.

No one cares what you’ve been posting for weeks. Just let people commiserate.

Yes! We haven't canceled yet, and I know there is practically no hope at this point, but I will definitely be very sad when it's official.
