| I really don't get what the big deal about resale value is. Y'all planning on getting divorced? |
This seems to be the only reason that makes sense. |
Or maybe she just likes big diamonds? |
And trends change. I’m old but all the newlyweds I know have big rings. When I got married, 1.5 was a big deal. Now they all look 2.5 |
Probably because all of the milennials are buying lab grown!! |
Mic drop |
| I say if it makes for a pretty ring get lab grown, but if it looks gaudy and suspicious don't go there b/c some tasteless person will surely ask... |
Look, I'm the person whom you are quoting -- I'm trying to put it in context. Reasonable and informed people can disagree on this matter, absolutely... but in my experience the people who aren't that informed tend to have a very black/white view of this matter. It's just not as simple as you may think (or at least just according to the quote you make). |
... specifically - would you deny the kid the ability to make ae living at $2 if it helps his sister go to school? His family to eat? VERY far from perfect system, but yeah- for some people it may be worth it. |
That's too large to wear during the day and while doing chores. |
I agree with this poster. Buy the ring that fits you and your lifestyle best - not based on size/affordability. All of the people I know who ended up with giant rings only wear them for special occasions. Bigger rings look flashy when perfectly shined, but quickly look dingy after a few chores and day-to-day life. They snag on everything. Big rings have also been known to be a subconscious signaler to bosses that you don't 'need' that raise or bonus that much. |
I do not think I would mind! But I prefer estate jewelry anyway which is very eco friendly

This. |
Diamonds shrink with age. Go big! |
Boom. |
