Agree. It's not an investment. |
You're right, the analogy got confusing. But I think you re confused in your own thinking, too. It sounds like you are buying mined diamonds because you don't trust the lab grown diamonds are a robust market. But the idea is that the lab diamonds are going to knock out the mined diamond market, in all likelihood - and it was already a shtty market, because diamonds don't hold their value, even absent new technology. Hence: buy what you like, aware that it's not a bank in which to park money but something to use. |
| I'd love to buy lab diamonds but am curious about why they are still so expensive. (My only diamond is my family heirloom ring, so I am not in the habit of paying for mined diamonds.) |
Um, it's the people who have the fake diamonds that are hurling insults on this thread. |
I think they often actually DO have flaws. |
That's probably true as I have real diamonds and I am not disturbed at all by this. |
Yes, because the people with mined diamonds keep insisting they’re fake, when scientifically, they aren’t. |
| My IVF kids were created in a lab and they are very real! |
Sorry but you’re very bourgeoisie and the people here with REAL kids can spot your FAKE kids. My god this board sometimes I mean really. A diamond is not a stock, it’s not going to be an investment lol |
Another way of looking at this: people who only had the option to make $2/hour in dangerous conditions now don't have even that option. And I say that as a bleeding heart liberal who has spent most of her life in these areas of the world. It's never as simple as it may seem on the surface. |
Huge difference between a lab grown diamond and a diamond simulant such as c.z. The former are cheaper than naturally ocuring diamonds but muuuuch more like 30% - 50% less, not $30 total. |
|
I've thought about this too, as I'd like to buy a replacement for my (stolen) engagement ring. I would love to wear something now and I love looking at diamonds and I like big diamonds- what can I say- but I wonder how long it's worth waiting. Thoughts? |
Oh Jeeze, you’re right, that kid is really going to miss doing backbreaking work for $2/hr. I mean yeah, he could lose a limb but after one day he’ll have made $20 and POSSIBLY have all of his limbs!!! |
| I have a 12 year old mined Stone and I would actually want a lab diamond MORE. I have all the certificates that it's conflict free, etc but I also know for enough money there are things that can slip through cracks |
