+1 All the hysterics on AEM are about won't anyone think of the poor, underprivileged children at Key! But that's all they care about, the specific subset of kids at Key (which can't fill its 50% Native Spanish quota). They don't care about underprivileged children near Key who can't/don't want to go to immersion and would be better served by a neighborhood school. Or underprivileged children who are closer to ATS and would be better served by that location, and more likely to choose it for their kids if it was closer to the concentration of Spanish speakers. And, if you point that out, you are racist.

Yeah, well, the county only really needs one immersion school anyway. Clearly, the interest level from native Spanish speakers is not that high.

Marge must be cringing when she reads one of her former students being so selfish, attacking others, and not basing any of her argument on facts.

She is a product of Key? Not making a good case to continue the program.

Nor do they care about the VPI kids who should be at Key or ASFS, but are having to be shipped to Barrett b/c ASFS had to kick VPI out of ASFS because of overcrowding. They are not speaking out for the voiceless- they are speaking out for their own privileged self interest. It makes me absolutely sick and disgusted.

Start watching around minute 38 or so.

Omg. Who the hell acts like that

Untreated mental illness?

If she's like this in public, I wonder what the vibe in her house is like. What school her children go to is the least of that family's problems!

Should the staff simply ignored her? I worry if engaging just encourages future outbursts...

They tried their best to ignore her!

I find it interesting that the robust AEM conversation about tone policing and channeling Rosa Parks came to a screeching halt once people actually watched the video. I love it.

These screaming women should be so ashamed of themselves. Unbelievable. I just listened.

The staff dealt with it as professionally as possible. They ended the q&a rather than prolonging the verbal abuse (in that venue, anyway).

This is why we can’t have nice things. APS needs to end the culture of extensive engagement, because it inevitably gets to the point of high drama over people’s personal issues. It’s too much.

Eh, I expect it to pick up again at lunch time.

I cracked up at the lunatic screaming about how much of a check she needs to write to the re-election campaigns of APS *staff*.

I can't wait for the longform Atlantic article to come out about this process and APS moms.
