Exactly. It’s screws the Middle Class families who have nowhere else to go.

The rich move on to private. Unless Middle Class families can relocate even farther out (we’ve had several neighbors move to Frederick County), they are stuck.

Not sure why that makes you chuckle?

It makes me chuckle because all these folks in MCPS who were threatening to move to HoCo or FFX, claiming that MCPS is horrible for doing this, now can't get away from it. Some folks laud HoCo and FFX as the answer to MoCo's school issues. That's why it makes me chuckle.

I live in one of the most diverse clusters in MoCo, and I wouldn't move to Frederick for the schools.

Yeah, people leaving MoCo are not going to Frederick because they want a better education for their students. They just want schools with de facto segregation. I’m less skeptical of those going to HoCo. I don’t know enough about FFX public schools to say, but the VA public schools forum has a LOT of racists.

Our FCPS (MD) school cluster is excellent. We're in a new development, and it's probably the most diverse area in our little community - whites, but many Asians, African Americans, and Africans who left Mo Co and Northern Va. for better schools.

If you've been around long enough, you see the patterns. Uber wealthy send their kids to private. UMC move to up and coming areas, which is our little corner of the MD. My kids are happy and doing well. They are learning and they've made many friends.

So you can generalize all you want, but as an educator, I think I can see the difference. not saying all FCPS schools are great - But we found a gem!

Ah, you are the infamous “so glad to be out of MCPS” DCUMer who moved to Frederick Co.

DP

I doubt there is just one. I know of three families who have left MoCo for Frederick County and are much happier.

I’d bet there are plenty of people in that situation.

NP. I'm sure there are but this is the same teacher that jumps on any thread about MCPS/FARMS/curriculum.

The parents could also not move.

Put effort into building a great homeschool coop for your children.

Plenty of educated parents, some that stay at home so it's doable. There are resources to help organize and experienced parents to give advice. If you like your neighborhood stay.

How's that commute on the 270 parking lot? I'm in Rockville and you couldn't pay me to move an inch further out. Period.

I'd be happier with a smaller mortgage, but not a long commute, and certainly not necessarily with the Frederick schools. Not of them are ranked all that well, either. The highest ranked HS in Frederick is Urbana, and their college readiness index is lower than Sherwood and NW HS in MCPS.

People will fight his plan and put pressure on the board to come up with a logical redistricting option that will not destroy the high performing schools in Howard County. However, there are three known school board members who have their hands in the back pockets of county council members who are crazy enough to vote in Dr. Martirano's plan.

There is already backlash and community protests. The next few board meetings in Howard County are going to be quite interesting.

Also, if your child is segregated into all GT courses, then you have nothing to worry about. Physical education will be the only course that your child will have to interact with the lower performing students. Physical education is usually okay because I find that students who are not academically inclined actually do well in physical education. However, if your child is in any of the regular major subject courses (math, science, geography, English, etc.), then your child will encounter some problems. Parents of GT students have nothing to stress about. Parents of non GT students better fight like Hell!

The GT students self segregate themselves from those students. So, there is limited interaction, peer pressure, and excusable social destruction if your child takes all GT courses. Parents of white and Asian students will have nothing to worry about because for the most part white and Asian students self segregate themselves anyway.

Please note that if you are a parent of a high performing or GT African American and Latino child, then, you too better fight like Hell. Lower performing minority students (specifically African American and Latino) are negative influences towards GT AA and Latino students. There is way too much social pressure to not value education and to engage in social destructive behaviors. You want your child to thrive in an environment where being an intellectual is phenomenal and not in an environment will they will be ostracized for "acting white".

There is so much generalizing, stereotyping and racism in the above post that I just don’t know where to start...sickening.

It's all true lol

Experiences vary but there can be significant pressure to act as the other black children act. If there is a cohort of (usually middle class) academic strivers it is less of an issue, but if not the desire to be accepted can undermine what has been created at home.
