It makes me chuckle that both HoCo and FFX have had or are having these issues while at the same time, MCPS parents are threatening to move to one of those school districts because MCPS hired a consultant to look into how to look at boundary changes. So, where will these parents who are complaining about MCPS and the hiring of the consultants go now?
Exactly. It’s screws the Middle Class families who have nowhere else to go. The rich move on to private. Unless Middle Class families can relocate even farther out (we’ve had several neighbors move to Frederick County), they are stuck. Not sure why that makes you chuckle?
It makes me chuckle because all these folks in MCPS who were threatening to move to HoCo or FFX, claiming that MCPS is horrible for doing this, now can't get away from it. Some folks laud HoCo and FFX as the answer to MoCo's school issues. That's why it makes me chuckle. I live in one of the most diverse clusters in MoCo, and I wouldn't move to Frederick for the schools.
Yeah, people leaving MoCo are not going to Frederick because they want a better education for their students. They just want schools with de facto segregation. I’m less skeptical of those going to HoCo. I don’t know enough about FFX public schools to say, but the VA public schools forum has a LOT of racists.
Our FCPS (MD) school cluster is excellent. We're in a new development, and it's probably the most diverse area in our little community - whites, but many Asians, African Americans, and Africans who left Mo Co and Northern Va. for better schools. If you've been around long enough, you see the patterns. Uber wealthy send their kids to private. UMC move to up and coming areas, which is our little corner of the MD. My kids are happy and doing well. They are learning and they've made many friends. So you can generalize all you want, but as an educator, I think I can see the difference. not saying all FCPS schools are great - But we found a gem!
Ah, you are the infamous “so glad to be out of MCPS” DCUMer who moved to Frederick Co.
DP I doubt there is just one. I know of three families who have left MoCo for Frederick County and are much happier. I’d bet there are plenty of people in that situation.
How's that commute on the 270 parking lot? I'm in Rockville and you couldn't pay me to move an inch further out. Period.
I'd be happier with a smaller mortgage, but not a long commute, and certainly not necessarily with the Frederick schools. Not of them are ranked all that well, either. The highest ranked HS in Frederick is Urbana, and their college readiness index is lower than Sherwood and NW HS in MCPS.
