Absolutely does. Enough with the pointless attempts at social engineering that everyone knows are useless and ineffective in the long term. |
Yeah, people leaving MoCo are not going to Frederick because they want a better education for their students. They just want schools with de facto segregation. I’m less skeptical of those going to HoCo. I don’t know enough about FFX public schools to say, but the VA public schools forum has a LOT of racists. |
It is what it is. People freak out when they see FARMs numbers go up. The stigma, unfortunately, is there. Wilde Lake 40% FARMs River Hill <5% FARMs If you're wealthy, you buy in wealthy areas. just saying . . . Maybe you live in a La La Land bubble, but this is not the United Socialism of America. Money attracts money; that's all there is to that. |
Our FCPS (MD) school cluster is excellent. We're in a new development, and it's probably the most diverse area in our little community - whites, but many Asians, African Americans, and Africans who left Mo Co and Northern Va. for better schools. If you've been around long enough, you see the patterns. Uber wealthy send their kids to private. UMC move to up and coming areas, which is our little corner of the MD. My kids are happy and doing well. They are learning and they've made many friends. So you can generalize all you want, but as an educator, I think I can see the difference. not saying all FCPS schools are great - But we found a gem! |
There is so much generalizing, stereotyping and racism in the above post that I just don’t know where to start...sickening. |
White flight...it’s the American way. Has been going on for decades. |
| You all do realize that the study will not make any actual recommendations? And that 3 new high schools will be opening within a few years (Northwood, Woodward and Crown)? Do you think elected officials, who presumably want to be reelected, are going to make any changes, and then make them again within a few years when those high schools open? If yes, I have a bridge or monument to sell you (so I can then afford to send my kids to private!)! |
Then why is the County spending all this money to even do the study right now? Why not wait another 5 years? |
Northwood is not a new high school. Woodward and Crown are slated to open, and the study will take that into account. |
The residential segregation in Montgomery County is the direct result of social-engineering policies like zoning, redlining, and highway-building. |
Urbana is certainly growing - unfortunately, as far as area traffic and air/water quality are concerned. (Frederick County land use policies are terrible.) However, I don't think there will be mass exodus of upper-middle-class people to Urbana. It's good that you're happy where you are, though. |
| Urbana is all sprawl right now but it does have the best test results in FCPS right now. |
Oh, wow. That is a total yuckfest. What is up with the whole "lower performing ruining everything but good at pe" crap? My kids are magnet but have a variety of classes with non magnet students. It is fine. Fine in English, History, music, art and pe. Disruptions are not necessarily from "lower performing " kids. What a bunch of hogwash. |
| What is interesting in Urbana? nothing. I know 4 families that moved there that hate it. the schools are just ok, not worth losing the convenience of being closer to dc |
Ah, you are the infamous “so glad to be out of MCPS” DCUMer who moved to Frederick Co. |
