Do you see how cause and effect works?

I hope you don’t have a job where your cognitive skills are needed on a daily basis as it is clear you have none. Could you show me the part of the proposed legislation that mandates tipping ? Since you care so much about those in the service industry, particularly restaurant workers , why would you be ok with the status quo where the prevailing minimum wage of a city is $15 and a subset of the labor force is paid $3.33/hr?

You are one angry little person, aren't you?

If caring about the well being of a segment of the labor force is angry to you, I welcome that compliment with glee. America’s fast becoming a third world country because of people like you and your insatiable and demonic selfishness and inability to see past the tip of your nose. I don’t get it, shouldn’t you be happy that you’d have more money in your pocket now that you won’t be going out to restaurants as much you used to?

Well, gee. How about because, by their own decree, they end up making far more than $15 an hour, based on the tips they get?

+100
Waiters and waitresses can make a pretty darn good living on tips (depending on the restaurant). I waitressed as a teen at a family restaurant (not high end by any means) and made excellent money. Back then, our hourly wage was $1.15/hour. Tips were our real pay.

This is neither your era anymore and it isn’t about you .

If they end up making more than $15/ hr , so effing what ? Your use of the word ‘decree’ is misplaced , try familiarizing yourself with the meaning of certain words before you use them in such an ignorant manner . Back to the subject , why do you guys insist of having tipped workers ( restaurant workers ) to be precise earn $3.33/hr while the city is heading towards $15/hr ?

Well, bless your little heart. Whose era is it, friend?
No, it isn’t about me..... but to deny that waiters/watresses make above minimum wage with tips is just plain lying.

The DC Council will overturn it anyway. Hardly anyone voted in the primary. Maybe we'd get a more accurate vote for sentiment if the vote occurred in November. Hey, what an idea! Construct some better legislation and re-offer the question in November.

That person has this attitude because they are part of an outside interest group with no life work experience and no background waiting tables.

Remind me to tip less in DC if it gets overturned by the council.

Why punish the wait staff if it gets turned over by the council? The overwhelming majority of professional service workers were against Prop 77 anyway. There are too many social justice warriors in this town, who by and large never worked a REAL job in their lives, yet salivate to impose their deluded beliefs on others.

It's interesting that you are posting from New York. When you say "this town" do you mean the town in which you are currently located or DC?

Jeff, I appreciate your due diligence! I am on vacation with my family and your site provides a means for me to keep up with the news associated with our beloved city. Road food in the hinterlands is generally atrocious. I miss the high-quality dining we have in DC, and am scared that it is going to disintegrate into plate-drop-off with a scowl, as you see in some European destinations (which I can't afford to visit anymore). DC dining is basically all I have to look forward to!! No thanks to Prop 77.

No, not a regular, on business only. There is no problem with service in California with no tipping wage. Businesses are supposed to cover the gap, I would let them do it. If the stuff doesn't like the pay they should quit. People voted. I understand if it's overturned in courts and don't have a problem with that, but not by a council.
