^^^ Even my friend's 12-year-old understood that you don't allow antisemites to drive you into hiding. He was being ridiculed for his yarmulke at school, and his Orthodox parents told him he didn't have to wear it. He said no....he would wear it, yelled back at the antisemite boys (wonder where they got it), and eventually it died down. Had he allowed himself to be bullied into hiding his Jewishness, that would have emboldened the bigots and the abuse would have continued. |
Here's the thing: It can't be only Jewish leaders who make a statement, although they must. We need the non-Jews, including black leaders, to come out and do the same. P.S. I love Colbert King, also. |
In terms of physical appearance and clothing? Yes, absolutely. Sure, if you see a bunch of people at a temple on a Saturday morning, they are likely Jews. But you see a person walking down the street, unless they are wearing a yamulka or dressed as a Hasidic, they are likely to look like others from Europe or the middle east. |
Not the PP you're arguing with, but let's say that were true. THAT's how you excuse antisemtitsm? That if the Jews don't like the racial or religious slurs against them, they can attempt to hide their Jewish identity? (I think I would be pegged for a Jew in a NY minute regardless.) That's how Nazi Germany started, with that attitude. That Jews were less worthy of respect than "full" humans. And the DC Council, unless it takes action, is saying that Jews are less worthy of pushback against bigots than are other minorities. |
Everybody get off your pitiful plight pedestals for a second and bear in mind this is 2018 and in this day and age here in the District the only people universally disrespected as being less than human are hom, followed closely by the impoverished and the imprisoned. Geezus this woe is me shit is nauseating. You wanna experience true discrimination, disregard, and disrespect go throw some grubby clothes on and just stand around outside for a while. I got money says regardless of your race creed color religion gender or sexuality damn near everyone will either avoid you like the plague or pretend you don’t exist. |
| ^^^homeless not hom |
And this matters, why? I mean yes, many Jews "blend in" visually sometimes. But many don't, and many can be easily identified in other ways like name plus appearance. |
Way to deflect!! This is about Jews being called "termites." It's not about homeless people. I get it though - you believe anti-semitism isn't really a thing, and that Jews have no right to be upset about it anyway. |
Exactly!!! OP here. This thread is about how antisemtitsm is so accepted among DC leaders that a public official can stand outside a public building, holding the bullhorn while a Farrakhan substitute calls Jews "termites" - and there are no consequences. The fact that we have posters here (or maybe it's just one resentful antisemite) diminishing the rising antisemtitem as NBD shows hostility toward Jews, as if somehow biogtry against them should just be ignored. |
If that's how you interpret what I said more power to you but that's not what I said. |
Not the PP, but that effectively is what you said.....that antisemitism isn't "as bad" as bigotry againt others, and you are diminishing it. Plus, did you actually say, in your effort to prove Antisemtism isn't all that bad, that Jews aren't as disrespected as convicted criminals? That's what you're coming up with now? Well then, that makes me feel better. Jew, or burglar? Jew, or violent assaulter? Jew, or rapist? Eh, as bad as them Jews are, I guess rapists are worse. Thanks a heap. |
Yup. That guy is so hostile to Jews that he's more concerned about the disrespect paid to convicted criminals. |
ok, tell me what you said AND its relevance to the topic at hand: anti-Semitic statements made at a public event. |
I said the most universally disrespected, disregarded, and discriminated people here in the district are the homeless followed by the impoverished and the imprisoned. Anything else you gathered from that statement is your narrative not mine. |
Ok well - the topic of this thread is anti-semitism in the district. Do what do the homeless have to do with anti-semitism? Please explain. |
