What American "cultural" things you don't do or allow your kids to do.

Regarding not dating in high school: I didn't have a rule set by my parents but was raised with good morals. I chose not to be intimate until I met the man I eventually married. I'm not a conservative and I didn't grow up going to church. I also choose not to drink alcohol. It's possible to raise a child to have an innate sense of propriety and right vs wrong without laying down the law on them; my parents actually had very few rules and trusted me to do the right thing. I therefore had nothing to rebel against.

100% of pitbulls were bred to be aggressive. That is how the pitbull breed came into existence, people intentionally wanted to create an aggressive bread.

So, I’m wondering if other “non americans” have been to other countries besides their original one and here. I’m asking because some of these comments are outright ridiculous and in no way “American”.

And coming to the US was a choice you made. I don’t like things about the US either like the healthcare system and how the working poor get little to no help. But I would still choose here rather than many other places. That being said I can’t imagine making a choice to move to another country and raise my kids there just to shit on things and call the people who are from there “dangerous” and not “people I want my kids to spend time with”. You know you can leave right?

Right?? Now I was too prude and too shy to have sex until I was like 20 and in college. That doesn't mean I wasn't interested in sex or didn't have sexual desires. It also didn't mean I didn't have romantic feelings and massive crushes towards boys! I just wasn't ready to do much with them beyond kissing until I was older because I was so insecure in my own body. If my parents took that as me not having sexual feelings, or not being interested in having a romantic boyfriend, boy, they were off base.

I think it’s funny how many of you seem to think sheltering your kids and forbidding them from having normal teenage relationships is some kind of badge of honor.

One of my closest friends in HS had parents like this. He was completely controlled and was expected to excel in academics and had so many expectations. We were very rarely allowed to hang out and it was only under very specific circumstances. He got into a top college and then the shit hit the fan. He almost failed out his first year and got 2 different STDs within 6 months of starting college. He ended up reining it in and doing ok but Let me tell you, keeping a kid under those kind of conditions is really a recipe for disaster.

On the contrary I had parents that didn’t give a F and were frankly pretty neglectful and I was one of the most risk adverse of my friends just naturally. Let your kids have normal teenage experiences.

DP. I think socialization, family dynamics and home culture also plays a part in how and when children become sexually active. Most gen-z are moving away from hook-up culture and I think this is also due to the culture and worldview that immigrants are bringing to the table. Hooking up as seen as trashy and poor people's behavior. Especially in the affluent and educated circles.

Not in the rich South/ Texas or the poor South/ Texas. It’s all about hooking in the guy fast.

Now I agree it’s trashy as a teen and lots to lose, but somehow everyone’s rich Moms are setting them up with other rich mom kids. It’s truly bizarre.

Of course they never really leave home or most certainly return fully hooked up after their SEC sorority/frat college life.
