China is what it is. This is a culture and a civilization that has existed for multiple milennia. It is dense, beautiful, and has achieved much. It is enviable. It is also a corrupt totalitarian regime that heavily controls information access to its citizens and commits internal atrocities against multiple ethnic groups.

The US has its own points of pride and of shame. Recently, a lot of additional shame.

Neither is pathetic. The only pathetic thing here is weird little fanboys running around spewing their excited fanboyisms like they are wetting the bed in the middle of the night. Get a grip.

The US is in decline as a world a power, China remains on the upswing. The decline might not be recoverable, at least not for a very long time. The decline is almost entirely the fault of the Republican Party. I don’t know what you are whining about, everyone is laughing at us.

Honestly, the bolded doesn’t even sound like something a normal person would write, so I’m wondering if you are a bot or a shill.

the decline is caused by selfishness of urban elites.

replacing our own children with cheap temporary foreign labor.

decreasing taxes on the rich.

Urban elites didn't vote for Trump, so, sorry, no.

Kind of funny how you ignore all of those farm, construction, slaughterhouse and rural healthcare jobs that are filled by legal and illegal immigrants in your "urban elites" bleating.

Chinese govt leaders are deeply educated. The system is based on "demonstrated academic success" aka people who studied history, math, et al.

Education is a very big deal in Chinese culture.

American culture simply does not work like this. I'm not suggesting you're not capable and smart if you didn't go to Harvard but simply that education is not exactly a lynchpin to American government. Culturally, American government runs on other levers.

When you have so many millions in a country as well, you need a bit more stricter game rules. The whole democracy thing with 330M population is kinda hard to manage on every single front by a government.

China did not win. America is where all the rich Chinese go. China is still super poor

If only China were as bountiful in wealth and success as Alabama.

America's "democracy" is a lie and it's unchecked greed and capitalism that has destroyed America.

Explain why AI tech costs hundreds of millions in America and China created the same for far, far less. And they made it faster.

It's not like sci-fi hasn't been relying on an Asian-focused future world trope for several dozen years, especially China (but also Japan, etc) -- it's called Sinofuturism.

Firefly, China Mountain Zhang, Neuromancer, The Expanse .., the list goes on. I mean, I know your super edgy stickin' it to the man / alter-nationalistic fanboying is very out there, but it kind of isn't. This is nothing new to people paying attention, but again, have at it. Go to town.

Have you been to these places recently? I’ll set China aside but Seoul korea makes NYC look third world

It's well known that China just steals American research and creates cheap knockoffs.

Regardless of the system - parliamentary, presidential, etc - it is unfit for purpose.

At the local level, our inability to build the housing and infrastructure needed is reflective of democracy.

At the state and national level, democracy keeps giving us rubes and charlatans who drop the ball on healthcare, foreign affairs.

I recently spent 2 months in Asia. While Japan and Korea have democracy it isn’t like ours. And China…I’m sorry, but China is amazing. I don’t particularly care for Chinese people or culture, but their vision of governance and the state as a shepherd of a civilization is impressive.

Everything works in China pretty much.

Xi cares about the Chinese civilization in a fundemental way our leaders don’t care about America.

Honestly, if Jensen Huang was given dictatorial powers, we’d be better off.

Korea and Japan have some issues around work culture but things are pretty amazing there as well.

Instead of saber rattling and antagonizing China, we should be looking to build bridges and gain real understanding of their success. You don’t see China doing Israel’s bidding. They think in centuries, while we think about the 24 hr news cycle.

The intellectual property thieves have chimed in.

There are many aspects to the China vs US debate. I think the easiest to understand is that it is a test on democracy vs whatever you want to call China. When I was growing up, it was all "end of history", democracy is the ultimate (least bad) system. I think that is coming under a lot of scrutiny now with the Internet and social medium and the dumbing down of voters. I do not see democracy winning under these circumstances and it will only get worse. The monarch, philosopher king model is looking a lot more attractive.

When one side(republicans) do not believe in democracy they will take over everything by throwing wrenches in to the works. Look at the Spanish civil war.

Maybe 20 years ago. Now they have passed us bye. Look at the numbers.

2021-2025 Trends: China's valid domestic invention patents exceeded 5 million, leading in 29 of 36 technology fields.

China Patent Grants: 1,044,777 (2025 projection)
US Patent Grants: 603,194 (2025 projection)
Total Active Patents: China (5.7M) leads the US (3.5M)

China vs US
2024 -1,044,777 324,042
2023- 921,000* 312,746
2022- ~798,000 323,410
2021- 696,000 327,307
2020 -530,000 352,008

I think is is cute that you have no idea was is going in China but feel compelled to post about it.

This isn't really a one sided issue. According to classic game theory, 2 party rule already tends towards the extremes. Add in social media, AI post truth society, and dumb people, and you have it even worse. I don't know how America self corrects but something drastic needs to be done.

We self correct by kicking the GOP and Dem Parties to the curb where they belong and replacing them with much less corrupt and much more functional political parties representing the conservative and liberal factions of the electorate. You'd think this concept would be obvious to the average person but it isn't. Many idiots think the GOP and Dem Parties are public entities that can't be replaced. So sad!

Well, luckily for us Trump, is ruining science and research and education and the economy and freedom, so China won’t have anything to steal soon.
