It's well known that China just steals American research and creates cheap knockoffs.

Maybe 20 years ago. Now they have passed us bye. Look at the numbers.

2021-2025 Trends: China's valid domestic invention patents exceeded 5 million, leading in 29 of 36 technology fields.

China Patent Grants: 1,044,777 (2025 projection)
US Patent Grants: 603,194 (2025 projection)

Total Active Patents: China (5.7M) leads the US (3.5M)

China vs US
2024 -1,044,777 324,042
2023- 921,000* 312,746
2022- ~798,000 323,410
2021- 696,000 327,307
2020 -530,000 352,008

I think is is cute that you have no idea was is going in China but feel compelled to post about it.

Ouch, son. China has more than 1.4 billion people, which is about 4 x that of the US. And you're bragging that they have about 1.7 x as many patents?

If you're indicative of how China teaches math and stats, they have a lot of work to do to catch up. Start with mathematics.

Anytime you want to invent something instead of shuffling paper and surfing instagram all day, feel free. I don't think we're gonna get many inventions from African American Studies or Women's Studies majors. But have at it.

I do find it interesting that the PRC even has a patent office after all the intellectual property they have stolen. Should anyone take their patent claims seriously?

China shock 2.0

ā€œ China’s export surge continues unabated, smashing into the rest of the world. There’s also a twist: any efforts to reject Chinese competition could provoke retaliation, threatening access to the Chinese suppliers that are so central to modern manufacturing supply chains.ā€

ā€œ Over the first seven years of the 2000s, China’s import volumes rose relatively healthily, as it sucked up the sophisticated equipment it needed to make its manufacturing exports boom. But more recently, its import volumes have been anaemic. Rather than bemoaning the factories crushed by Chinese competition, perhaps we should be pining for sales that never materialised.ā€

Meanwhile in the college forums, liberals are crying that Jhu is ā€œtoo Asianā€ and duke has become ā€œtoo nerdyā€

DP. You still suck at math. If patents are the metric that you're using, then on a per-capita basis the US is significantly out-inventing China.

Patents is one thing, the big picture of global influence, country morale and the talent of future generations are considerations just as valuable.

Cant have morale and talent with companies laying off 50% of their workforce at any given time. Everyone in the US will just focus on keeping their current job and bailing at first sign of company trouble.

lol in the US VC firms buy up patents and restrict their use. This stifles innovation. This is another reason the Chinese are so far ahead of the US. There is not one area where the US is ahead of the Chinese.

Now add in the US can not manufacture anything. Look at the US domestic car market. US car manufacturers make up 30% of the US market.

Regardless of the system - parliamentary, presidential, etc - it is unfit for purpose.

At the local level, our inability to build the housing and infrastructure needed is reflective of democracy.

At the state and national level, democracy keeps giving us rubes and charlatans who drop the ball on healthcare, foreign affairs.

I recently spent 2 months in Asia. While Japan and Korea have democracy it isn’t like ours. And China…I’m sorry, but China is amazing. I don’t particularly care for Chinese people or culture, but their vision of governance and the state as a shepherd of a civilization is impressive.

Everything works in China pretty much.

Xi cares about the Chinese civilization in a fundemental way our leaders don’t care about America.

Honestly, if Jensen Huang was given dictatorial powers, we’d be better off.

Korea and Japan have some issues around work culture but things are pretty amazing there as well.

Instead of saber rattling and antagonizing China, we should be looking to build bridges and gain real understanding of their success. You don’t see China doing Israel’s bidding. They think in centuries, while we think about the 24 hr news cycle.

Asian Dad 2028 please

We won’t compete with China without someone like Jensen in charge.

The complaint is what? Are you still going to complain about this when China owns everything of value in America? They're not "nowhere" any more, they're already "there". And their shit is shinier since they're newer than here.

We need to grow a bunch of elite students instead of complaining about recess time and homework. Kids that live in Asia outperform kids that live in America. What do you think happens when they become adults? And the kids that go to elite colleges in Asia are the elite kids. The ones that go to elite colleges in America are by in large nepo, DEI, or athletes. Multiply this by every single year and what do you get?

I would be perfectly happy in a police state like China. I have work ethic, I’m not sympathetic to criminals or the lazy or underachievers. So I would do well in a version of Chinese society wrought in the USA.

But I don’t think many of you would like it at all. You’d be seen as troublemakers. And we know how China deals with troublemakers.

Then you are self identified authoritarian bootlicker with a fascist streak. You must be so proud. Fascists usually are!
