Trump Baby Bonus

The truth is that they don't want more children. If they wanted that, they would pay any woman who had a child $200k for the rest of her life as long as she didn't do any work outside the home.

What they want is women to be servants to men. So they want them having children but no way to be financially independent. And they just cannot accept that women are not that stupid.

Roughly 800 women die during childbirth in the U.S. each year. I wonder what percentage are married? Either way if Republicans keep multiplying and Democrats don't you won't be happy with any elections eventually.

No guarantees that kids of Republicans will be Republican.

This is true....I've seen it many times republicans/christians tend to help their children see clearly the ignorance of the party. They also tend to see the hatred of their religion-alas democrats are born.

I don’t know-maybe address the maternal mortality rates in this country first before you start encouraging everyone to go out and get pregnant. But of course all you have to do is remove black mothers from the data and poof! You’ve solved the maternal mortality rate problem. Sigh. We’re doomed.

The majority of children in Head Start are not White. The Christian Nationalists want more babies in this country, but not necessarily non-white poor ones.

I hope the DCUM crazies that are advocating for higher birth rate know that Elon Musk agrees with them. Hmm. How does it feel that you have the same idiotic opinion as President Musk??

🚨 ELON MUSK: "There's a lot of things that I worry about. The birth rate is very low in almost every country and unless that changes, civilization will disappear. America had the lowest birth rate ever. That was last year. Humanity is dying."

*Reserving 30% of Fulbright scholarships for married applicants or those with children. [I thought the current admin was eliminating the Fullbright program?]

*Providing a $5,000 “baby bonus” for new mothers. [But how are they going to ensure that it motivates the "right" kind of women to have more babies?]

*Funding programs to teach women about their menstrual cycles and fertility awareness. [I'm all for women knowing more about their bodies, but conservatives have been attacking sex ed programs for decades].

*National Medal of Motherhood for women with 6+ children. [Gives Soviet Union vibes.]

These ideas will cause no one to change their minds and have a baby. These are the dumb ideas of men, who know exactly zero about motherhood.

Well, they know that they want you to embrace it. These policies are a soft launch to turn public opinion against working mothers, and then when the birthrate does not rise they will enact policies against contraception, as well as keep chipping away against universal suffrage and things like having your own bank account/credit, etc.

Handmaid’s Tale in its infancy indeed.

Tanking the economy, public health, and the environment should help with that

I'd love to know what counts as a child for this award. Does it have to be born alive? Do 6 week miscarriages count?

I assume that there's already some discussion about how it has to be the "right" babies - nice white babies, in other words, not minority babies.

And I also assume we're not talking about expanding benefits for existing babies or anything like that?

+1. Work on fixing those issues if you want to encourage confidence about having children.

They didn't think this baby bonus through, did they? I have cousins with 6, 7, 8 kids with that many different men...and the oldest cousin is only 26. That's a LOT more fertile years they each have. You put a $5k price tag on fresh babies and they'll pop them out left and right. Now, they're not going to take good care of them afterwards, but Republicans don't seem to care about kids after they've been birthed, so eh.

They were absolute ballers during Covid when we all received stimulus checks and they got a check for each kid. They'll do just about anything for money except work.

I was thinking that straight up paying women to get pregnant could start to get weird. Like get pregnant, pocket the money, and give the kid up for adoption weird. Without parameters it could get really messed up quickly.

Well no, of course not. It’s never going to happen. That upper class tax cut comes first.

Just saying though…..if you crash the economy (heading that way now), you incentivize marriage for survival, people may have a few kids especially if their labor is needed.

What they’re going for is Maoism from the right. Cozy little middle class lives may well be off the table soon. People need to expand their mental universes to understand how drastically things may change.

I’m too old and I have 3 already.

Part of it is the lack of decent men. There really aren’t enough to go around…

I’m mid 40s and have several old friends from college who, in theory, wanted marriage and kids but just never found the right guy. DH’s sister (late 40s) is in the same boat. None wanted single motherhood and all are happy with their lives as is, at this point.

But why would they ask mothers? This is a problem to be solved by a bunch of weird men wearing makeup and making speeches, as per usual.
