Yes, we understand all of that. And it's still fine. It's above freezing right now. |
| My school dismisses at 3:50 and buses are leaving from 4:00-4:20 and sometimes we get notifications a bus is running late, on rare occasions as late as 5 p.m. |
Well hopefully none of those buses will slip on the snowy grass. |
How? Forecasts were showing 4-8". My map from The Weather Channel showed it started showing at 9am (which we all know wasn't right). So the forecasts were incorrect. The gamble is "will it stick to the roads?" which is really hard to predict when it's a borderline 32 degrees. They got lucky, truly. |

Reliable forecasts. TWC is not of those. Did you see the CWG and local forecasts said later? |
+1 I also didn't see any forecasts saying 4-8 inches of snow falling this afternoon. That was a total for the whole event that has since been downgraded. They all said small amounts of accumulation this afternoon and that's not accounting for how much won't stick on roads when the temp is above freezing. |
My super reliable snow .model says 3.5 to 4 inches between today and tomorrow. |
Between what time today and tomorrow? |
PP again- one more thing about MCPS, if there was any real chance that it would start snowing by 9 am, they would have shut school completely today no later than 5 am. As would all the neighboring school districts except perhaps DC. That didn’t happen. That also should have been a clue that the report you were looking at was off. |
thoughts and prayers |
What I read too. Between 1pm and 7am. |
Wrong. Us meteorologists had the right info and made the right call (CWG at WaPo is proof of that) and obviously it appears MCPS is in contact with reputable meteorologists. Just because YOU don't have access to precise information doesn't mean it isn't available to experts and school systems willing to contact them! Also, I, and perhaps others, have been posting on DCUM since yesterday about warm ground temps, dry air, etc, which would delay snow accumulation considerably. So you can't even follow a thread you're posting on. Try to keep up with accurate information instead of blaming others for your lack of research. |
The same meteorologists who recommended to close everything on Saturday and had DCUM parents complaining? |

The level of mental illness on this thread is so entertaining. Anxious parents in the DC area during a snow shower never disappoint.
It will stop snowing by 2 am, plenty of time to clear the roads. We are getting less than 3 inches. No worries...kids can walk in 3 inches of snow. I predict a delay at most. |
