Something will pass by Friday because Congress wants to go home. They will find an excuse to give Trump the middle finger and Trump will accept it because his a weak, lame duck and Musk will Xhit some lies and we'll all move on.

I doubt it. Trump shut the government down right before Christmas in 2018 for 5 weeks. He isn’t even President yet, and somehow these fools are letting him run the show. How is that going to look in the history books? “The GOP followed the President-ELECT’s lead and shut down the government for…. Costing the government $XX… “ It’s so stupid.

Trump will say "it happened under Biden" and his idiot followers with a 5th grade education will cheer it on.

Then President Doge will convince Rs in Congress to raise the debt ceiling to bankrupt the country like every Trump company, and his idiot followers will cheer him on.

They can try, but all the headlines say right now that TRUMP wanted to shut it down.

Trump will muzzle the press by suing them for speaking inconvenient truths like that.

Democrats were always complaining when Republicans balked at raising the debt ceiling. Now it is a bad thing to raise the debt ceiling?

The debt ceiling didn’t need to be raised until halfway through next year.

It's just so god da*n disheartening.

As someone posted on DCUM he did a better job lying to voters. So, yes, it seems like everyone is actually going to bend to him, including the media. Goodbye government, goodbye health care, goodbye disaster relief, goodbye reasonably priced eggs, goodbye federal oversight of education. The billionaires, at least, are loving it!

I want to go back to the days when "Idiocracy" was just a funny movie and not real life.

The current threat of a government shutdown has nothing to do with the debt ceiling.

And why isn’t Biden saying anything now?

https://www.whitehouse.gov/briefing-room/statements-releases/2024/12/18/statement-from-press-secretary-karine-jean-pierre-on-republicans-threatening-a-government-shutdown/

It is titled: “ Statement from Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre” and includes no statements or messages attributed to the President. I think we are now at the Weekend at Bernies point of the Biden administration.

Biden respects the separation of powers.

This is a legislative matter at this point.

It should be a legislative matter, but for some reason a bunch of the Republican legislators are taking their orders from an unelected billionaire playing bureaucrat.

Not sure why this is happening, but pretty sure money and kompromat are involved.

I firmly believe that Trump spent years gathering info on as many republican politicians as possible and has been blackmailing them all along.

Biden should implement a hard shutdown. Lockdown every federal building and property. Send home TSA and ATC. Military can guard federal property and thats it. No checks go out from the U.S. Treasury. USPS stays home, sorting facilities locked up.

Everyone is off duty except the military.

This.
If it’s shut, it’s shut.

They can. But Trump and Musk are telling Republicans they will be primaried if they vote for the CR.

The all should be primaried for listening to someone who is not elected into office and someone who has not been sworn in. Not to mention failing their oath of office which begins “ "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic.”

Citizens should demand the constitution be amended to allow for a recall of members of Congress.

Why would Trump need to raise the debt ceiling? He’s going to bring down the deficit with his tariffs, right?

No, send the military home too.

"The GOP won't fund Obamacare!"

"The GOP wont let us not fund the border wall!"

Budget bills are required by the Constitution to begin in the House.

The House is controlled by the GOP.

This is true; only the party that controls the House has the power to shut down the government. Recall how the GOP-led House of Representatives was vehemently opposed to the GOP president's border wall idea in 2018.

Jingle all the way! This is the Christmas present that the Kamala voters needed at this point.
