And here’s the ignorance we’ve been dealing with, folks.

It's fact.
I know it hurts every time you have to send in the check, but it is what it is.

Hint: it helps to provide evidence for your claims.

The MD state report card puts MCPS’s mediocrity out there for everyone to see.

It would be so helpful if you could provide evidence proving private schools produce worse outcomes. Data, maybe?

Private schools don't have to submit those stats to MD. That's the beauty (or not) of private schools. In fact, their teachers don't even have to be certified.

Private schools have to submit ERB scores. And their teachers absolutely have to be certified.

But sure — the absence of state testing OF COURSE means private schools are inferior to MCPS.

You are so convincing.

Private school teachers do not need to be certified in MD.

https://www.ed.gov/media/document/operating-regulations-comparison-chart-8-17-17-webpagepdf

And I was responding to the PP who wanted to see scores from private schools so they could compare it to public. My point is that those numbers are not published by the state like they do for public schools.

Private schools have to be certified by Maryland educational authorities. So stop making it sound like private schools can do whatever they want.

Without data, it’s simply stupid to proclaim that MCPS is superior to private schools.

? per the link, in MD, private school teachers are not required to be certified. They can get certification, but they are not required to get it.

That’s great. Private schools still have to adhere to state requirements in order to be accredited. That includes teacher qualifications.

You act like it’s the Wild West for private schools.

LOL!

Of course, MCPS has exactly one 5 star high school: Whitman.

Not even Poolesville has 5 stars.

Pathetic.

Oh gosh, yea, a 160K student school district with a close to 40% FARMs and an almost 20% ESOL rate doesn't have more than one 5 star outstanding HS. I'm so shocked. /s

Are some of you pro-private school parents seriously this dumb?

Then stop acting as though all the W schools are good. Because clearly they’re not.

Oh gosh, why would a large public schools including W schools have lower scores than smaller private schools that can curate their own student body... hm.. let me think... 🤔

For the 1,000th time:

I’m responding to posters who say private schools are inferior to MCPS.

That poster made a blanket statement to which you responded also with a blanket statement.

Some private schools aren't as good as public schools, and some public schools aren't as good as some private schools.

But, in general, a small wealthy private school will have higher scores all around than a diverse large public school because 1. money and 2. private schools can curate their student body the way they want and counsel out the troublemakers. Publics cannot do that.

So, you comparing QO to Sidwell is ridiculous.

BTW, I do bash MCPS on here a lot. But, I realize that MCPS is a very large diverse public school system that will never have the kind of scores and outcome that is the same as a small wealthy private school.

No. What I said is that good private schools are better than MCPS. I did not make a blanket statement.

If me picking Sidwell is unreasonable to you, I’m happy to pick another private school.

But the reality is that even the supposedly “top” MCPS schools are struggling. We saw that in the Bethesda magazine cover story recently, and we’re seeing that in the MD state report card.

That’s really the problem. MCPS is struggling nearly across the board.

It's a large diverse system, so yes it will struggle across the board. I would be shocked if it didn't.

We are considering moving our kids to Bullis or Saint Andrews in the coming years. They are still having a great experience at our local Wootton cluster Elementary and Middle School‘s, but the issues are starting to show in the middle school and it Wootton and I am getting increasingly worried. Do you really think that they will be OK if I leave them there? I have no doubt that with parent like myself monitoring their progress and staying on top of their schoolwork and helping propel them to excellence they will be OK, I just don’t want them to be dragged down by a broken system around them.. I also don’t want to pay $60,000 a year for something that I could get by propping up the MCPS experience. Thoughts?
They are two middle of the road white kids with involved parents that both have advanced degrees and are 1 percent income earners (don’t at me, it’s just our combined HHI). We wanted to stay since the kids are so happy but just not sure.

start your own thread. You'll get better answers.

Private schools teachers have to go through their own certification process for the school to remain accredited. In includes having at least a BA, going through an approved teacher prep program, taking Praxis exams, etc.

Aside from the magnet programs, essentially no schools in MCPS are hitting state targets in standardized testing.

That’s ok with you?

DP. My kids are well above. Doesn’t matter if the majority are not.

The benefit of public schools is you have more diversity. Those who find that a detriment should go private.

So all that matters is your kids. Screw everyone else.

And if anyone chooses private school, it’s only because they hate diversity.

? dp.. you are seriously defensive. Why on earth do you need to justify paying for an expensive private to a bunch of public school parents. The PP did not say "screw everyone else". More like it's the private school parent saying a big "screw you" to public schools by sending their kids to private, which is fine. That's your choice. No need to get angry or defensive about your choices. Stop lurking in a public school forum. You seem to be doing so to make yourself feel better about spending all that money.

I thought private school parents hated it when public school parents went into their forum to bash private schools. Yet, here you are.
