Wicked

I enjoyed it, but whew is it a long one. I don't understand why they felt the need to make it almost 3 hours and split it into 2 parts.

I've read the book and seen the stage show multiple times, so I'm not a Wicked noob.

I felt like the time went quickly. My 11 year old felt it was a tad too long. We both loved it.

I thought it went quickly as well. In a way, I'm glad they split it up. It's nice to have a pause in the middle to reflect on the messages and speculate on what happens next. For those of us who haven't seen the stage version, we know the beginning and the very end, so we get to imagine what gets us to the next step.

It's also interesting to think about how the viewing experience would have been entirely different if the first scene was not the end of their story. It would have lost a lot of the darkness.

I’ve now seen it twice and also loved it. It’s a great movie. I have a few nits, but think this one will stand the test of time. My daughter laughed out loud several times, the actors are incredible, and the last scene (Defying Gravity) is a masterclass.

If you know the ending, the opening scene with Glinda is really powerful. I knew Ariana Grande could sing and was funny, but she really became her character. I doubt the movie will get many above the line wins at the Oscars, but both Ariana and Cynthia Erivo should be nominated. I think Ariana can win.

Who's going next weekend?

How close is it to the book? I got it before there was a musical. I know the musical was well received but I got bored halfway through the book and never finished it. It is the rare book I gave up on.

Loved it. All of the actors were amazing but AG and CE were beyond. The sets were incredible as well. I cried more than once - so good!

Agreed. I can’t wait to go see it again .

Ethan Slater as Boq seriously gave me the creeps. They should really edit him out given the whole scandal. Looking at him all I could think about was how he betrayed his wife.

she just rubs me the wrong way.

Can't stand Ariana.

+1 Not a fan of the casting at all. Skipping.

Re: singing along: the amount of talking people do during post-covid movies is ridiculous. I greatly appreciate the reminders for people not to sing along. I’ve seen that there are specific singalong screenings, which is a fun, great idea.

Hamilton PP, I also had someone try to sing along during Hamilton in NY. Our whole row shut that shit down FAST! 😂

How queer is it?

I think he was fine. I don't like he betrayed his family but I can seperate the actor from the man

Yes, the movie covers only Act I of the musical, even though it's as long as the whole musical. You have to wait a year to see Act II.

What a terrible idea.

It’s just such an obvious cash grab that it instantly turns me off from the film.

So movies shouldn't make money?

Did I say that? Why don’t you take that stick out of your ass. They do it so one movie makes twice as much money. It’s cynical and stupid and bloats the whole production.

It’s not done to make the best movie possible.

I shouldn't be surprised but, I think your comment is so over the top angry over nothing.

I am going to wish you a happy Thanksgiving in spite of your crudeness.

I’ll tell you what it is. It’s challenging an observation that is absolutely accurate (that the whole two part movie release thing is a complete cash grab) and with something that was completely NOT said or even implied. Of course no one makes movies for free. People here cannot for five seconds resist trying to start a stupid debate and it gets old really fast.

You shouldn’t be surprised at all when its treated with disgust.

If you can't handle an simple remark than perhaps you aren't ready for a civil discourse. Than again considering our country's new leaders I shouldn't be surprised at the outright lack of civility and crudeness.

Hope you had a happy thanksgiving amyway.
