We just voted for that. He now has a 2 term limit so can't run again. In fairness, while MCPS has challenges, in this particular instance we are just dealing with issues in other parts of the state. These kids happen to end up in a shelter within the Whitman boundary so are eligible to attend the school. I don't think MCPS can or should say that kids residing in bounds can't go to the school (until they do something like this obviously). But I also don't think the kids themselves are well served by a school that can't really serve their learning needs or behavioral needs. |
The one thing MCPS hates is bad publicity. You have to threaten them that you will go to the local news. |
They have a right to an education but it should be at a special school/facility or the parents should be required to attend classes with their child and make them behavior. Or, they can do homeschool, virtual school, pathways to graduation, etc. Lots of optons. Or that medical program. |
I would have gotten an attorney and sued MCPS and filed a police report on teh child. Enough is enough. |
I’m glad that our superintendent decided to write a system wide email about safety in our schools on the heels of this and many other violent incidents. Oh wait, his email was about psychological safety in the context of public discourse around illegal immigration. Good to see where his priorities are. |
1000% |
These are kids in a shelter. Their parents are likely not able to attend high school with them. The parents may have their own issues. |
At least our undocumented students can feel safe knowing that local officials will NOT cooperate with federal immigration laws. Yep, clear priorities and right in line with the priorities of our local politicians. |
It shows who Taylor is scared of in this county: CASA and Identity. |
Entire county has lost it big time. Don't adress violent crime but talk about undocumenteded students, huh. Just abasket case. |
Omg—the last thing we want is these kids parents in classes with them. I guarantee that will not be better. But there should be an intensive services school for them and if that’s impossible for some reason, virtual schooling. Yes, they probably won’t take advantage of the virtual schooling but they aren’t taking advantage of the in person schooling either. |
What happened to the security guard that was at the start of the video? Did he leave? |
Does anyone know how many kids are in the NCCF program for teens with violent convictions? |
I can hardly even believe that stuff like this is happening in schools in the US. Those thugs should be in prison. |
Nope. It didn't happen recently and not at Whitman. The give away is your kid got a 1 day suspension. No way your kid is currently at Whitman or in MCPS and has broken up a fight and then got a 1 days suspension. |
