Not because they actually align with his "platform," or even the GOP's previous platform, when they had a real one. People have been inundated by misinformation about the state of the country's economy, the state of the border, the impact of Trump era policies, and the effects of Biden era policies. I hear my own teenager parroting things that are patently false, but that he is hearing from every corner. Democrats need to do something to break through the propaganda machine and expose it for what it is. When they figure out how to do that, if it's not too late, they might finally have success. But when that happens, that's when a fascist like Trump will start jailing journalists and people who speak the truth. So maybe it's already too late.

The fact that you think Americans going to the grocery store and reacting to what they see is a "propaganda machine" is part of your problem.

It’s propaganda that they think a President can independently control inflation. And ludicrous that they think someone like Trump will fix it.

Dems need to spend the next four years tying every Trump mistake (and there will be many) to Vance. He needs to be fully branded for what he is by 2028.

Democrats think abortion is #1 and people who aren’t democrats are nazis.

That’s what they insist is reality.

Dcum isn’t the place to talk about truth, it’s a place democrats come to attack their fellow Americans and pretend abortion is the focus of everyone’s life.

Why not say Indian, White and Jamaican American?

The only thing I’m reflecting on since I’m a centrist Democrat, is what the heck is going on in the heads of people who think this guy is an acceptable leader of our country?

H1XXB and Biden

In the time of mass layoff of tech workers, has Biden done anything to protect American’s jobs?

Trump at least did a few things:
1. Buy American, hire American executive order.
2. Pause immigration and work visa from overseas.
3. Crack down H1XXB abuse and asylum EAD abuse.
4. Crack down illegal immigration.
5. A few plans to pause stem OXXPT, H4 EAD etc.

And that’s when the jobs markets were good.

Now there is barely any tech job left on the market, and Biden seems to have done nothing other than:
1. Lower the bar for NIW and EB1 green card.
2. Encourage laid off aliens to stay at US as long as possible by providing one year EAD.
3. PP for H4 EAD.
4. EAD for frivolous and fraudulent asylum claims.
5. No scrutiny for H1XXB or L1 application.
6. Mass green card issuance from oversea embassies.
7. Does not mandate e-verify
8. Expands the number of job categories for OXXPT visa

Even though Trump has done many bad things, at least he did something to protect Americans livelihoods.

The average person does not want boys in girls' bathrooms, locker rooms, and sports.

The average person does not want to defund the police.

The average person wants secured borders.

The Democratic party continues to stick their head in the sand and say anyone who disagrees is racist, sexist, transphobic, homophobic, etc etc. And maybe some of that is true.

But there's a big group of people who want common sense. They don't want trans kids to kill themselves, but they also don't want drag queens strutting half naked in elementary schools. They don't want immigrants in cages, but they also think 'catch and release' endangers our country. They don't want black teenagers in jail due to racist cops, but they are tired of watching habitual criminals face no consequences.

This thread is an excellent example of 'la la la,' plugging your ears, and pretending that nothing the democratic party did was wrong, everyone else is wrong, and no other human being could possibly have any values that don't reflect yours.

Dems lost HUGE swaths of previously democratic voters. SOMETHING is going on. Pay attention, for ONCE, instead of blaming the voters again and again and again. Look at California - 71% of CALIFORNIA voted 'Yes' for tough on crime policies. San Diego, LA, San Francisco - these big, blue, liberal cities, are TIRED of it. They don't hate their neighbors. They don't want homeless people shot in the street. But they're tired of cops telling them "there's nothing we can do" about human feces and needles on the sidewalks.

This is a global phenomenon. Look at the backlash in Canada, the backlash in Europe, against unfettered immigration. Look at the rise of conservative, far-right policies in otherwise very liberal, progressive countries. The average person is reaching a breaking point.

The average American is more moderate than democratic policies but not shy about embracing republican that are anything but moderate ? Yeah! I mean congrats on your win and enjoy the inevitable windfall but democrats owe you nothing .

And the voters do not owe Democrats their votes.

+100, from a Democratic woman who voted for Kamala.

My liberal, highly educated, upper middle class friends simply cannot fathom that they live in a bubble, that the Democratic Party looks down its nose at regular everyday people, and that abortion is not issue number one for the vast majority of people.

UMC people are the ones who have their lives planned down to the minute from age 15 to 35, plan an extravagant trip before trying to get pregnant, and ceremoniously go off birth-control/start tracking their cycles in the hopes of trying to conceive. An unplanned pregnancy would completely derail their life plan, so it makes complete sense that abortion rights are incredibly important to this demographic. I know because I am one of them.

When I talk to my working class family members, things couldn’t be more different. Babies are largely conceived as happy accidents, and the circumstances must be incredibly dire for a woman to abort. Genetic testing? Largely unheard of and all babies are a gift. They see their 20s as the decade they become parents anyway, not for climbing the corporate ladder and traveling the world. So abortion rights are important, but not the lightning rod that it seems to be for the upper middle class. Further, the need for an abortion seems more remote than the need to be able to take care of their families – that’s where inflation, immigration control, etc come in.

It’s saddens me how completely out of touch the Democratic Party is. I don’t doubt for a second that many, not all, of the people who voted for Trump are indeed bigots in one way or another. But it is completely self-serving for the Democratic Party not to at all look at itself and wonder why it is losing more than half the country.

Democrats need to check their elitism, plain and simple.

The Trump thing has always been mystifying. But Democrats really need to think about how they connect with working and middle class voters, who are the vast majority of the electorate. Democrats have become the party of rich, urban elites and one POC group. That's not winning national elections. In addition to everyone else, Democrats are even losing Latinos right now. They are not connecting with everyday people.

again, this is the problem. I'm a democrat. I voted for Harris. this idea that every single person who doesn't agree 100% with exactly the party platform, must be a psyop or a republican in hiding, is what is alienating otherwise democratic voters. We are dooming ourselves, every single time, by refusing to admit that. Every time a moderate democrat brings up something like, "hey, public opinion is broadly against men in women's sports, maybe we shouldn't hang our hat on that?" we get shouted down. and then this happens and everyone's shocked.

You're contradicting yourself. People worried about trans men in so called women's sports are not struggling economically , are they? Besides, if it wasn't trangender rights it would've been something else. Before lecturing to me , you may want to consider that people like you are running after your own shadows under the guise of dems need to drop this or that in order to win .It will never end . You seldom hear republican thugs rush to drop this or that even after they take severe beating like in the blue wave of 2018. Ask yourself why you're so insistent on dems dropping their positions.

Kamala Harris could've pretended to be anti trans, gay marriage, equal pay, immigration and more and guess what ? That wouldn't have mattered in the end.

WTAF is “so called women’s sports” supposed to mean?!

No. I will not apologize for having principles and upholding our constitutional values. Trump voters are the ones who need a serious reckoning. All of this ugliness has been lurking under the surface forever and Trump just lifted the hood.

Yes, this is my takeaway. To win, we must learn to lie like the GOP. Lie and entertain. Bread and circuses.

Voters are not interested in facts or reason or real work to make things better.
