Time for reflection as a dem?

But there's a big group of people who want common sense. They don't want trans kids to kill themselves, but they also don't want drag queens strutting half naked in elementary schools. They don't want immigrants in cages, but they also think 'catch and release' endangers our country. They don't want black teenagers in jail due to racist cops, but they are tired of watching habitual criminals face no consequences.

This thread is an excellent example of 'la la la,' plugging your ears, and pretending that nothing the democratic party did was wrong, everyone else is wrong, and no other human being could possibly have any values that don't reflect yours.

Dems lost HUGE swaths of previously democratic voters. SOMETHING is going on. Pay attention, for ONCE, instead of blaming the voters again and again and again. Look at California - 71% of CALIFORNIA voted 'Yes' for tough on crime policies. San Diego, LA, San Francisco - these big, blue, liberal cities, are TIRED of it. They don't hate their neighbors. They don't want homeless people shot in the street. But they're tired of cops telling them "there's nothing we can do" about human feces and needles on the sidewalks.

This is a global phenomenon. Look at the backlash in Canada, the backlash in Europe, against unfettered immigration. Look at the rise of conservative, far-right policies in otherwise very liberal, progressive countries. The average person is reaching a breaking point.

I didn’t vote for Trump but agree with PP 100%. Run some woke ideologue in 2028 and see what happens. JD will win the popular vote by 5-7%.

Or is it time we accept that US is fundamentally misogynistic and don’t float female candidates for president?

When Hilary ran, it was an eye opener for me - I thought however bad racism is here, the sexism is much worse. Now we have a president elect who is a convicted rapist and on video tape as saying he routinely sexually assaults women he finds attractive. He refers to female opponents in highly vulgar and vicious ways.

Now half of US states don’t have basic human reproductive rights. Maybe we do have to stop worrying about women in those states if they reelect the guy who orchestrated this fate for the .

Maybe Dems need to learn to suck up More to Billionaires in Big Tech?

I agree with you that Dems need to learn from this election but don’t think their agenda was particularly extreme.

Dems should just do what MAGAs do already, pursue their own selfish interests.

If conservative women want their daughters to be forced to give birth to infants with terrible birth defects, eff em.

If people "struggling" with inflation want to enact massive tariffs and block most immigration, thereby guaranteeing massive inflation, eff em.

If people want to let Russia retake all of Eastern Europe, eff em.

As someone who knows many people who have chosen to give birth to children who they knew would have a very short life, you are a terrible, terrible person. My friends loved their few days with their beloved kids whose bodies were broken and failed them. How the eff can you speak like this?

At least they had choice.

Terrible is forcing women to give birth to children who are doomed to die short painful existences with no quality of life instead of allowing them abort at 7 weeks.

again, this is the problem. I'm a democrat. I voted for Harris. this idea that every single person who doesn't agree 100% with exactly the party platform, must be a psyop or a republican in hiding, is what is alienating otherwise democratic voters. We are dooming ourselves, every single time, by refusing to admit that. Every time a moderate democrat brings up something like, "hey, public opinion is broadly against men in women's sports, maybe we shouldn't hang our hat on that?" we get shouted down. and then this happens and everyone's shocked.

As a dem, I don't think there's any reflection to be done. Sorry not sorry. I mean, in 2016 white women saw a woman who looked like them, talked like them, grew up amongst them and had plans that amongst other things didn't seek to tell what to do with their bodies. And what happened? They chose the guy who bragged about sexual assault and who has a well documented lifetime of all kinds of nefarious activities. If pasty white Hilary Clinton got passed over for the married guy who has trysts with porn stars, what kind of effing reflection do you think dems need ?

I—a heterosexual male born in a west african country—voted for Kamala Harris, but unlike some many of you here on dcum, I always thought her victory would've been the surprise and not the other way around. Envy, jealousy, racism, racism, misogyny, sexism are not things pollsters go looking for and even if they do, voters aren't going to tell a pollster they're not voting for a woman called Kamala because the thought of:
1-a woman
2- a proud African-American/south Asian woman
3-all the above is enough to make their bigotry radar
Explode.

In the spirit of fairness, the monkey reflection or o should say the most urgent thing to do is to rid the party of those who think it's their house ( Pelosi and Obama need to go for good)

I want to believe that there are better reasons why Harris lost, but a part of me thinks this is true, too. It doesn't matter what the policies are if the majority of Americans are simply racist, sexist, or both.

You're contradicting yourself. People worried about trans men in so called women's sports are not struggling economically , are they? Besides, if it wasn't trangender rights it would've been something else. Before lecturing to me , you may want to consider that people like you are running after your own shadows under the guise of dems need to drop this or that in order to win .It will never end . You seldom hear republican thugs rush to drop this or that even after they take severe beating like in the blue wave of 2018. Ask yourself why you're so insistent on dems dropping their positions.

Kamala Harris could've pretended to be anti trans, gay marriage, equal pay, immigration and more and guess what ? That wouldn't have mattered in the end.

I hear my own teenager parroting things that are patently false, but that he is hearing from every corner. Democrats need to do something to break through the propaganda machine and expose it for what it is. When they figure out how to do that, if it's not too late, they might finally have success. But when that happens, that's when a fascist like Trump will start jailing journalists and people who speak the truth. So maybe it's already too late.

The fact that you think Americans going to the grocery store and reacting to what they see is a "propaganda machine" is part of your problem.

It’s propaganda that they think a President can independently control inflation. And ludicrous that they think someone like Trump will fix it.

Absolutely. These issues are why I stopped voting for any Democrats. They have become a far-left political party. They need to ditch the influence of the progressive wing and moved back to the center if they want to win elections.

A sobering note of caution: Today is the 38th anniversary of President Reagan signing the Immigration Reform and Control Act (IRCA). The amnesty happened, but the enforcement promises were lies, poisoning our politics ever since.

Unless you get genetic testing done there is no chance you know about serious issues at 7 weeks. And outside the UMC bubble, most people don't get genetic testing done.
