Time for reflection as a dem?

Not just the older voters.

No, not just old voters, but there is a huge skew by age. Those over 50 have very different views than those under 50.

Maybe some medicare cuts will fix the age demographic problem.

And this is why Trump won. Your denial that the Dems have gone too far to the left. Even my cousin in Europe agrees that the left has gone to far in the US! My cousin said that Dems created Trump...that if Dems continue to deny that they have gone too far left, they will continue to lose.

Lot of split ticket voters in NC too with the Gov. race. I really do think it’s illegal immigration and perhaps immigration in general? Not necessarily the “people going through the process to legally move to and become citizens of the US” immigration but the “temporary” status for Haitians and refugees. People don’t like it across the political spectrum. It’s unpopular. It feels like giving handouts to foreigners who don’t even necessarily want to stay in the US and are taking up resources in our public schools and housing. There’s room for Democrats to be tough on the border and tighten up some of the legal immigration too, Obama was fairly tough in this respect especially in his first term and immigration was never a top concern during his presidency. Granted we had a lot of other things to worry about back then like not sliding into an economic depression after the mortgage crisis.

Nope we're not blaming black/brown people for this put the blame were it belongs/ White men, White women ( again), latinos

21% of black men in Georgia voted for Trump. Think about that.

Maybe identity politics is not a winning strategy.

Maybe running on

White man = bad

Men = bad

DEI

Open borders

Trans in women's sports

Free housing for migrants while citizens fave unaffordable housing

Is not a winning recipe.

I do think this was a key issue for a lot of voters. i am an older Dem voter and voted Dem - but I am turned off by the trans athletes competing at high levels in women's sports. You are not going to convince any Republicans/Independents to switch their votes to Dem (which is what needed to happen for Kamala to win) if trans right to pummel women in sports is in your (too big) political tent.

^adding...if you think running to Europe will be any better....my cousin stated "Europe is starting to be the same. People are rejecting the nonsense [of the far left]."

It isn’t and as a Democrat I hope it goes the way of the dodo.

I don't get the argument that Harris is too far left. She campaigned with a Cheney for goodness sakes. I agree that it is time for reflection as a dem, but I think we need to look issue by issue, policy by policy, and have the guts to admit what works and what doesn't.

To me the questions to ask are:
1) Where have our regulations not accomplished our goals?
2) Why is our healthcare the most expensive in the world with the worst outcomes (despite Obamacare)?
3) Have we made our country safer by funding wars in Israel and Ukraine? or less safe because now more people in the world hate us? Or another way to evaluate: is the death that our weapons have caused the work whatever goals we think it accomplished or were we influenced by military contractors and the old timers' fear of communism.
4) How much immigration does our country need to fill jobs and pay taxes into the system to keep social security and Medicare solvent? Is the illegal immigration bringing the people we need to fill these gaps or should there be a policy of tight borders but increased caps for legal immigration? And, what impact has Venezuelan sanctions and other US South American foreign policy had on economic conditions in origin countries and should this be changed to stop the flow of illegal immigration from those countries?

I am sure I could go on. My point is that Ds need to do some open-minded and unconventional thinking issue by issue.

It doesn't matter that the Biden admin had relatively little to do with the inflation, that we had a soft landing, or that we have fared better than basically any other advanced economy. Those are all abstract ideas to voters too. It doesn't even matter that the rate of inflation has been nearly back to normal for a year. People simply hate inflation and want to punish politicians for it, the end.

Yep.
Plus good old fashioned racism and sexism.

Lol. Now Latinos are bad.

Have fun losing elections for many more years, Dems. You are losing more of the largest minority bloc by the day.

Now it's

White man = bad

Men = bad

Latinos = bad

Who's next on the Dems identity S list?

The first three items have not really been pushed since Clinton lost.

Really ? Your European cousin is criticizing Americans for wanting the stronger social safety nets that Europeans have enjoyed for decades? I wonder how your cousin will feel when Trump concedes more land to Putin and there Russian neighbors move a block closer? And I certainly hope your European cousin isn't Polish!

This +100. Unfortunately Dems don't know how to reflect upon any of this. Even with the popular vote going for Trump this time. The writing is on the wall - clear as day. Dems will continue to lose if they don't wake up and see that the majority of the US does not agree with far left political and social values.

If I’m being honest, I think the trans issue is killing democrats. There was an effective ad in PA about Kamala bragging about getting trans surgeries for inmates when she was AG.
