I'm tired of the complaint threads about crime in DC. Let's take action!

For those of you in Ward 3- please bombard Matt Frumin’s office with emails, Tweets etc and ask him to take a stand on this bill. He has not come out in favor of it. When I have tried contacting him to ask for his opinion and support I get no response. This is unacceptable. We must push him to stop his waffling in this important issue.

Is this how to get behind it? Anything else? I agree, she is the only Councilmember even remotely acknowledging the spike in crime.

Yes this is very important. Please join the several people that I know of in my neighborhood who have committed to calling/ emailing Frumin on a daily basis until we get a response. He is ignoring us at his peril.

Thank you for this! I also called today. I named some things that concern us--such as soaring carjacking, shootings on Connecticut Ave., this is the SECOND 30 bus stabbing in what, a year?-- and said we expect him to respond to these as our rep. Back a bill, write a bill, do both! I told him the calls won't stop coming, so I agree, it's time to inundate. Ignoring constituents #1 concern does not reflect well on this guy.

Great! We should all be doing this. Bowsers bill isn't going to solve it but at least she's taking crime seriously... I'm terrified that the Council is going to stall action.

I had hope until I saw Bowsers bill. She’s clearly not taking this seriously either.

In case anyone needs a reminder of what we’re up against:

I was just reading a tweet from councilman Zachary Parker. Apparently today, in Bloomingdale, two teachers walking with a group of toddlers were attacked at 2nd and S Streets NW. One is now hospitalized; thank God some bystanders stepped in to help.

Surprise, surprise: the assailant was “well known” in the community. Fear not, as the Councilman assures us they are looking into “support services” for him.

Her bill is a woke-joke. It will do nothing whatsoever to reduce crime in DC.

How about Pintos bill? Is it either/or?

I visited the website. They have a donate and volunteer option. I personally think we need to get this initiative on the ballot to send a message to our rulers.

https://makeallvotescountdc.org/
"We can change the game and make politicians work for everyone.
We’re a group of neighbors starting the process of letting DC residents vote on whether to make all votes count in DC. This initiative, if we get on the ballot and neighbors vote to approve it, would implement ranked choice voting and end voter disenfranchisement for over 80,000 independent voters in DC.

Read below for more on what Ballot Initiative #83 would do if passed, and more about ranked choice voting and opening the primaries to independent voters."

The key part for me is ranked choice voting. It opens some avenues to throw the current Council and Mayor out.

If you voted Democrat, you voted for this, yes you did. Elections have consequences and the city is no longer safe because of the voters. Stop voting for the same politicians and council members and expecting something different. Or just move, because these people will NEVER see the truth, you have to see the world that you live in and not the one you hope for, and vote accordingly. I do not give two f s what letter is next to your name, if you are tough on criminals you have my vote.

"support services"--what does this mean? A voucher for an apartment on Connecticut Avenue is how I read it because vouchers solve everything, or does he mean actual commitment to a facility? We really need to get a handle on our violently disturbed population.

I don’t think I’ve ever voted for a Democrat in my life.

You don't think or you KNOW? You have to know these candidates inside and out, I'm never shocked at the stupidity of the voters I have conversations with, never.

DC is what like 95% Democratic in voting? That's what made this happen, just accept it.

The ranked voting initiative will allow more reasonable candidates (of any party) to have a shot. Right now loony tune fringe people are getting on the Council with a very small "real" percentage of the vote. They really aren't representative of the people's will, just a terrible election process we have.

+100. There are literally zero republicans to blame in DC govt for this mess. Not since Catanya and Swartz left the council at least a decade or more ago. This is an entirely democrat manufactured problem.
