This is sadly true. By law actually, the police are under no obligation to protect you. |
Police in DC are not obligated to protect you: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warren_v._District_of_Columbia https://www.findlaw.com/legalblogs/law-and-life/do-the-police-have-an-obligation-to-protect-you/ https://www.nytimes.com/2005/06/28/politics/justices-rule-police-do-not-have-a-constitutional-duty-to-protect.html |

There’s plenty of laws on the books.
Need MPD and USAO to step up and do their jobs. Tons of work shirking right now by both institutions. Not sure what’s going on, but it’s reaching crisis levels. Mayor Bowser needs to be singularly focused with getting our forensic crime lab reopened. |
Wait, what do you mean?? |
What’s the story? City employees spend all day on twitter posting to personal accounts instead of working? There are probably thousands of DC civil servants doing the exact same thing every day. |
This is crazy. The police won't help. The city officials won't help. Is this a city? |
We are constituents. We elect these people to represent us. Matt Frumin- and I assume most council members- have SEVEN full time paid staffers to monitor their little area of DC. It is unconscionable that they can’t respond in a timely manner to CONSTITUENTS who contact them, even if with a form template response. Mary Chen was outstanding at this. I always received responses promptly even if staff couldn’t directly address issue. Matt Frumin needs to get control of his staff. Extremely poor management. What are these 7 people doing all day? |
Very disappointed in Frumin so far.. |
Frumin hired a bunch of children mostly known for being obnoxious ideologues on social media. This is the obvious result. He’s not a serious person. |
| I agree with expecting to be emailed back within a couple of business days. That's absurd that his office doesn't. Even a form letter. I have gotten through by phone three times in the past week to register my dismay/disgust, so please keep calling his office[i]. He should be out on the streets by the Ct. Ave nuisance buildings every day, so he can see what we see. He should be riding the 30 bus. He should be up by JR when school lets out. he should be in CVS and Target when the kids do their daily raid. He should try buying toothpaste and have to have it unlocked. Maybe he can avert some of the crime too. I am sure the police would come when a Council Member calls. He should be "putting in the work" for his Ward. |
| Just want to add that DC is the rare city where CouncilMembers are allowed to draw a full salary and hold another job. Maybe we should look at that? Could explain why he has no time for email? ^ |
agree with PP. I work for a very progressive nonprofit that denies the crime wave (while also supporting Israel among other hypocrisies), also non-white but not Black, and would be branded a racist, which I wholeheartedly reject. I live downtown, send my kids to diverse public schools, and have dedicated my career to do gooder causes. The horrific crime — as well as the gaslighting denial from radicals that it is not happening— is maddening and dangerous. We need strong, moderate Democrats who are community minded (and not just showing off their trendy ideologies acquired at Bryn Mayr— and hey, I went to one of those schools as well and studied an equal amount of women’s studies, poli sci and econ, but this a time where real world experience and serious pragmatism matter much more than progressive cred.) |
Then maybe don't be boxed in by labels like Democrat? In a city like DC (not sure if you are from here) some people adopt the Democrat moniker (who are not) because they would not otherwise get elected. Other people are honest, and share their party affiliation, and have no chance of getting elected, but could be pretty moderate. We need strong, moderate candidates ^. Read their platforms, know about them, and support ranked voting in DC. That is the only way your wants will be possible. |
Frumin’s communication staff, if he has one, are completely incompetent. The morning a few weeks ago there was an armed car jacking at the gas station on CT located along the walking route to a ES, MS, and HS. And his Tweet later that morning was about . . . Ward 3’s history of racial housing covenants. Wut? |
I’m not sure he’s ever had a real job. |
