I'm tired of the complaint threads about crime in DC. Let's take action!

Congress can't even manage to pass a budget or elect a speaker

Has anyone had in luck in actually getting through to Frumins office? I have called and it always goes to voice mail. No response from email either.

WHAT'S IN IT FOR HIM?

Someone told me he once ran for congress from Michigan. Maybe he likes to so-called prestige of elected office

So-called for sure He does have an office with SEVEN people working for him though. (I counted). I have no impression of what he's done in that office though. Maybe he just likes having an office like you said.

The seven people working for him DO NOT answer the phone.

I am not sure what they do all day long.

They don’t respond to emails either. I’m sensing a great story opportunity for an intrepid Post metro reporter. Anyone have a contact?

Anonymous wrote:How about actionable recommendations to call council and the mayor with - not just complaints?

Start with looking at the entire chain and points of failure, like

Lack of parenting, supervision, proper upbringing, this city is full of nihilistic teens who don't understand that "free car" mentality isn't going to get them far in life

Community attitudes, like "why call it in, they won't do anything anyhow"

911 - they are short on dispatchers, that needs to be fixed (they are at least trying to give incentives to staff up)

When a crime is reported, how is it handled - how long til police show, do they actually do anything? As for the "no pursuit" policy shouldn't the city at least consider using GPS darts or similar technology rather than just shrugging their shoulders and saying "oh well?" And cars with fake tags - NEED to be towed on the spot. Pointless to put yet another ticket on the windshield when there is no name or address to go with it.

Prosecution - how can we put pressure on prosecutors to do their job? Can we hold them accountable? If prosecutors aren't prosecuting a huge number of cases or are letting violent criminals go only to commit crime again, shouldn't we have some recourse to sue the prosecutors for liability and not doing their job? And shouldn't we stop letting kids off easy when they are committing violent crimes and using guns to do them?

Evidence - can we get the damn forensic lab situation fixed already, and how is it excusable that it's dragged on as long as it has?

Courts - are juries letting violent repeat offenders off? Are they being appropriately sentenced?

Your last two points are REALLY good ones that are super hard to solve.

Esp the juries. Honestly, the juries just don’t convict in DC and it’s a huge problem.

I do not . I feel like there is someone who reports on local things posted to the Cleveland Park Listserve sometimes? If you commented there?

They are idiots to make abortion illegal in DC.

Done. What's DC going to do?

People: police can’t protect you or stop you from being victimized in most cases. Even if you can call 911 and get an officer dispatched to your location, chances are by the time they arrive, something bad will have happened to you or your loved one.

Politicians can’t keep you safe. There are already laws against everything bad happening to you and everyone around you. What else do you want politicians to do? Pass stronger laws that won’t be enforced?

You have to protect yourself and your family. That’s just the way it is.

People don’t want to face that reality.

Have fun arguing on the internet while the world around you turns into (has turned into) New York, Snake Plissken style. it’s a nightmare and none of you deserve to live like you do, a buffet for criminals, but you all don’t understand you have to protect yourselves.

They are idiots to make abortion illegal in DC.

There is zero doubt they would certainly try to and could possibly be successful.

I think we are kind of focusing on the wrong thing...we wouldn't be talking about Congressional oversight at all if our elected officials had any wherewithal.

Agreed. When seconds count, you can be sure the cops are minutes away.

Exactly. Even if you may disagree with them, the House Republicans are at least doing something. The only thing DC Democrats are doing is criticizing the House Republicans.
