What the thread says ^. This crime is BS. Our rulers must have amazing safe rooms, because they DO. NOT. CARE.
Please post any proactive ideas you have for changing this mess. Please post ways to do it. Let's organize! |
| Vote. Them. All. Out. |
Change would start with electing new leaders, but unfortunately that's almost impossible with the DC Council. Just look at Charles Allen and his failed Crime Legalization Bill from earlier this year. It was so bad that President Biden himself had to step in to save the DC Council from itself. To propose that we need to let even more violent felons off the hook in the face of an explosion of crime showed a total lack of judgment. And before any apologists say no damage was done, this failed stunt was a national embarrassment that set back DC statehood by decades, because it shows how our local politicians are just total clowns that cannot be taken seriously. But is there any chance that Charles or any of the other performative clowns will be voted out after this national debacle? Nope! He just gets to keep virtue signaling and dreaming up more horrible legislation with impunity. |

I’m serious, why don’t we run against them?
|
Have at it. Stop complaining on DCUM and go run for something. |
| Because the "real" election in DC are the primaries, during which basically only a handful of radical left-wing activists show up to elect their favorite radical left-wing clowns. The system itself is rigged against a moderate candidate. |
"I would rather sit at home and complain anonymously on the internet than try to actually do something." |
If you say anything about the crime or try to come up with any meaningful solutions you will be branded as a racist. |
OK, let's talk voting. There are a lot of smart people posting here. How do I know this, because people are spot-on informed and aware of the current issues. How specifically can we push through independents voting in primaries? Is there someone we should call to throw our support? Follow up--how do we get ranked voting? That would lead to huge changes in our current rulers. |
This is why we need to come together to do this safely. I agree, we are already being victimized by crime. We do not need to feel unsafe in other ways. |
"I would rather sit at home and come up with excuses for not doing something." |
I'm really looking for solutions here, but I think collective action is the way to go at this point. Should we choose a day and burn up the phones? You can call the Council and the Mayor and you do not have to supply your name--just say you are a concerned constituent. |

How about actionable recommendations to call council and the mayor with - not just complaints?
Start with looking at the entire chain and points of failure, like Lack of parenting, supervision, proper upbringing, this city is full of nihilistic teens who don't understand that "free car" mentality isn't going to get them far in life Community attitudes, like "why call it in, they won't do anything anyhow" 911 - they are short on dispatchers, that needs to be fixed (they are at least trying to give incentives to staff up) When a crime is reported, how is it handled - how long til police show, do they actually do anything? As for the "no pursuit" policy shouldn't the city at least consider using GPS darts or similar technology rather than just shrugging their shoulders and saying "oh well?" And cars with fake tags - NEED to be towed on the spot. Pointless to put yet another ticket on the windshield when there is no name or address to go with it. Prosecution - how can we put pressure on prosecutors to do their job? Can we hold them accountable? If prosecutors aren't prosecuting a huge number of cases or are letting violent criminals go only to commit crime again, shouldn't we have some recourse to sue the prosecutors for liability and not doing their job? And shouldn't we stop letting kids off easy when they are committing violent crimes and using guns to do them? Evidence - can we get the damn forensic lab situation fixed already, and how is it excusable that it's dragged on as long as it has? Courts - are juries letting violent repeat offenders off? Are they being appropriately sentenced? |
