I'm tired of the complaint threads about crime in DC. Let's take action!

And who are the electable alternatives?

In the last election I would have voted Krucoff over Frumin and Czapery over Nadeau, to start (not my wards though). People have to vote in the primaries. Allen needs a viable challenger too.

Also Todd over JLG but YMMV. He was very well-supported but she is too.

I am thinking about this. Is there a mechanism to declare neighborhoods private with a guard house at the entry? I'm being serious. if there isn't there isn't, and default to neighborhood watch and the reach out you mention?

Entry to neighborhoods? Tell us you don't live here without telling us you don't live here.

NP, but I remember when crime in Trinidad was so bad that there were police checking IDs at the few entrance points in the neighborhood.

Yep. PP clearly doesn't know DC even as they attempt to scold someone else.

Woman hospitalized after getting robbed and beaten while walking her dog near Fort Totten last night.

Good thing our local government that can barely manage garbage collection is focused on a Gaza-Israel statement instead of skyrocketing crime.

Well there'd need to be a cordon... I know it's farfetched. This is why everyone moves to Bethesda/Chevy Chase--there is that feeling of an "entry" to a lot of those little subhoods. Also, is it possible to speed away on their wretchedly narrow lanes?

Is the beating part necessary? Like, it's just gratuitous at this point.

Yes, I remember this too! I really think we need checkpoints, city wide. There has to be a way to radio ahead so these boneheads get apprehended at a road block. How did the Trinidad neighborhood get that put into place

^ I will look at this, thank you. At least it sends an arrow over the bow of our rulers that we are looking for change. Anything for "ranked voting"?

The ballot initiative also includes ranked choice

I did not know this! I am checking it out now. Sounds very promising. Thank you for offering concrete action. We need to send a message to DCs rulers ~ Allen, et al!

Call for a day of hats against crime protest. Everyone wears a hat with a "DC done tolerating crime" sign attached to it.

Crime and violence will not stop until the frequencies that control us are raised.
Word of advice, DO NOT open your door to strangers no matter what.

We do not. We also used the city's camera rebate system--cameras on front and back of the house. Despite what people think--the police do not have routine access, but if something heinous occurs the footage is pretty clear. Also, we feel it disincentives our house as a target. Putting it out here as one action people can take. The city's cameras are pretty worthless--they use them for ticketing, not crime solving. Every private camera mounted can help a lot.

I like this. How about red for all the blood that has been shed?

Brook Pinto seems to be the only one who has given a shred of thought to the crime spike. Should hat day be organic, or should we try to have her office promote it? She just recently completed the round of public safety walks. Admirable idea, but I doubt there was much turn our because many people are at work--but hats are something you can do anywhere you are.
