| How did the country make it nearly 200 years without this amazing bit of performance art? |
The law is that schools have to provide a minute of silence (for prayer, reflection, whatever) and recite the pledge each day. The law does NOT say that students and staff have to do anything during that time. You don’t have to stand or recite. You don’t have to pray. Schools have to provide it but nobody is beholden to do anything during that time. |
| Other than the American flag, I have seen Steelers flags and a few college flags in the classrooms on my children. I am not a fan of those teams, but I also don’t have an ounce of care they’re there. |
Exactly. |
This is not communist China. In the United States you don’t get to impose your disdain to those in uniform to others. This is a free country where we enjoy many liberties, and also have the freedom to show our gratitude to others’ sacrifice and service by thanking them the way we see fit. |
Bless your heart. |

If you want to make sure your kids stand and say it, I suggest that you make them recite it in your house daily.
Teachers and schools don't have the right to... and I don't really think that mumbling through some words that a lot of students can't define gives them any pride in their country. |
“This is a free Country where you’re required to stand and thank an inanimate object for that freedom or else you’ll have your freedom taken away.” |
I'm sure that poster didn't see the irony in her post at all. |
Oh please. Not saying that does not mean there is disdain. It just means that they are all doing a job. By choice. I'm thankful but it is very over the top. VERY. You do you. But this is not something I prefer to do. And yes, I have service member family members and they are not performative about it. |
You're school is the antithesis of American Freedom then. Go ahead and look up antithesis. I know you need to. |
Yes, all of this. |
Definition of Pride worth teaching to our kids according to FCPS: -Rainbow and Transgender flags and lessons. -LGBTQ Pride celebrations all year long. -Have everyone in the school recite their gender pronouns. -Pride in the Pledge of Allegiance to the freedom and liberties represented by the U.S. flag? Nah! |
YOU.JUST.DON'T.GET.IT!!!! No one is stopping you from standing and reciting the pledge. No one is forcing you to stand and pledge anything to the rainbow flag. At this point you have to either be extremely stupid or just want to beat a dead horse. |

I’m about to start teaching in the public schools and I am frustrated that in my state teachers are required to lead the pledge and can be fined for refusing to do so. It’s only a $5 fine for every two week period that the teacher fails to lead the pledge, so I am considering just paying and using it as an opportunity to teach a civics lesson to my students. The pledge of allegiance is contrary to the fundamental ideals of this nation.
Interestingly the minister (Francis Bellamy) who wrote the original pledge in 1892 was a SOCIALIST; I wonder if we could start educating MAGA about this terrible truth so maybe they’ll move to abolish the pledge? And it gets worse! Until 1939 children saying the daily pledge of allegiance also had to give the flag the Bellamy salute:
If MAGA folks knew that, they’d probably want to bring it back. |
