We are talking about Boston area, but if you want to see it's relative position 4th would be fair MIT/Harvard TU/BC/NU/BU Brandeis UMass Amherst |
Agree this is just about colleges in Boston, but if location didn't matter, WPI is above Northeastern, rankings aside. You'd pick WPI over Northeastern any day unless you are all in on the 5 year plan with internships. Babson and WPI are so completely different, you wouldn't be applying to both, so no sense in comparing. Babson is a business school, WPI's unofficial joke motto is "Friends don't let friends transfer to MIT." One of many reasons rankings are nonsense. |
You are totally wrong and delusional. WPI has 60% acceptance rate. WPI is a good solid tech school, but people pick Northeastern any day of course. Employers also pick Northeastern first It's clearly a step below. https://www.collegetransitions.com/dataverse/top-feeders-tech https://www.collegetransitions.com/dataverse/top-feeders-engineering |
For hard science I would pick WPI over NU any day. I’m not a NU hater by any chance, but some of you NU zealots are out of your minds. |
I'm sure you have your reasons, but nobody cares about 'you' Th mass general public picks Northeastern. Can't you handle a simple fact? |
UMass Amherst’s undergraduate computer science program is ranked higher than either NU or WPI’s LOL |
| Np- my kid chose Brandeis over WPI, Northeastern and BU this year. It’s about fit. |
So we should all become sheeple and follow the crowd? If everyone jumped off a bridge, would you? |
People have to follow you? PP said 'WPI is above Northeastern, rankings aside. You'd pick WPI over Northeastern any day' I just pointed out it's totally wrong and the opposite. I pointed out the fact that people pick Northeastern any day. You do you, but nobody cares. |
https://www.reddit.com/r/ApplyingToCollege/comments/yrhu3m/us_news_2023_ranking_of_best_undergraduate/ Looks like UMA is 1 position higher than NU. But then NU is higher than Dartmouth, Vanderbilt, etc. Major strength is important, but it's one of the several factors for undergrad education. Most people would pick Dartmouth over Northeastern. Similarly most pick Northeastern over UMass Amherst or WPI. Well WPI is a step down in every angle, not sure why someone even brought it up against NU. Some people at least get instate tuition for Amherst. |
+1 I really don't think "transferring to MIT" is anyone's concern. |
The strange part is the "I'm not a Northeastern hater but...." on every single thread. OP really, you must get a life beside finding new ways to mention Northeastern. |

Salary comparison for above three schools for CS
https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?167358-Northeastern-University&fos_code=1101&fos_credential=3 NU: $132,227 https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?168421-Worcester-Polytechnic-Institute&fos_code=1107&fos_credential=3 WPI: $124,359 https://collegescorecard.ed.gov/school/?166629-University-of-Massachusetts-Amherst&fos_code=1107&fos_credential=3 UMA: $111,935 Of course you would be fine at any of the fine schools for CS, but schools as a whole NU is regarded a level above WPI and UMA which have around 60% acceptance rates. |
You’re right. I bet nobody ever in the history of all time has ever picked WPI over NU, especially before NU started gaming the system to shoot their way up the rankings. The NU or bust crowd on this forum really does a disservice to the school. |
