Isn't Wellesley above Tufts? It's a consistent top 5 ranked LAC and it has direct cross registration privileges with MIT.
Here's WSJ/THE's ranking of the top 10 in Boston: https://graphics.wsj.com/table/COLLEGE_RANKING_BOSTON Here's Niche's: https://www.niche.com/colleges/search/best-colleges/m/boston-metro-area/ |
I have the same question. My daughter either declined to apply, or declined to accept, most of these schools in order to go to Wellesley this coming fall. She’ was looking at relative status, among some other factors, and that was her impression. |
Isn't it girl's only school? So half of the population is not interested. Out of the half, majority is not interested in LAC, so |
That doesn’t make it lower ranked than Tufts? It’s still very highly regarded and is objectively an elite school. |
Wellesley is one of the Seven Sisters schools. For those from Boston, Tufts and Wellesley are very close to the same level, which is, very difficult for admittance. |
What year was this written? BU is below Northeastern and BC currently. |
OP, I think the most important question is why are you asking? |
This is probably because the NU students have the CO-OP experience. |
| Argue all you want. Below Harvard/MIT is essentially interchangeable. |
These are interesting - I think Niche is better when considering undergrad ranking but maybe WSJ when considering undergrad and graduate. |
Added Wellesley. - Student Stats by SAT middle 50% (2021) TU: 1380 - 1530 BC: 1330 - 1500 BU: 1310 - 1500 NU: 1410 - 1540 WC: 1350 - 1520 - Retention Rate TU: 95% BC: 95% BU: 94% NU: 98% WC: 96% - Graduation Rate TU: 94% BC: 91% BU: 89% NU: 91% WC: 92% - Salary Outcome TU: $74K BC: $96K BU: $81K NU: $89K WC: $76K These schools are all similarly very difficult for admittance. Looks like Wellesley belongs to this group very well. |

The quality of the student body is similar across those schools, but where Wellesley stands out is in financial and faculty resources.
It is one of the rarified schools with over 1 million dollars per student. The others are nowhere nearby: https://www.reachhighscholars.org/college_endowments.html The others have student to faculty ratios of 10:1 or higher. Wellesley is 7:1. Wellesley may not have the same outcome for earnings after college, but this is due to a liberal arts emphasis (Tufts is the same way). Wellesley outshines the others for placement to top law, med, PhD, and MBA schools. More of their grads get competitive fellowships as well on a per capita basis. For a solely undergrad experience, Wellesley is exceptional. |
It depends on how you look at it. If you change the parameter, then it is not. https://www.niche.com/colleges/search/best-college-academics/m/boston-metro-area/?type=private&type=public |
Utterly meaningless given how NEU “games” its stats. Easy example - it accepts many students into first semester abroad or in CA and none of those students scores are factored into these number. |
